Our air con is about $13999 but we are only paying $1. Built a Hawthorne 31 with EB nessjeffdreamhouse.blogspot.com.au Building an investment now with New Living homes... We are at nearly finished... Just landscaping and driveway to go! Re: ducted aircon costs 4Nov 10, 2012 3:34 pm The air conditioning unit itself might only cost $4k - but then you need to add the installation cost and the addition cost to have three-phase power put in (instead of the standard single phase), with all the extra little "goodies" that brings along (circuit breakers, surge protectors, etc) and the cost for things such as higher current electrical isolator points for the unit itself. I'm pretty sure Clarendon would be pricing this all into the cost of the house even though you don't see it being itemised anywhere in the contract explicitly (as it's an "inclusion") - that's how "promotions" generally work. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: ducted aircon costs 5Nov 10, 2012 9:49 pm I just signed up a contract with my builder. And my contract for a ducted A/C cost $10,800, with 2 zone. I was told during my tender stage that I got 2 free split A/C as part of their promotion. Tender price to upgrade this split A/C to ducted A/C was at $7000, however, during contract discussion, it came back with a higher price ($10800)!!! I somehow feel that I didn't actually get anything from the "promotion". Also I am paying an extra $1450 for electrical works due to upgrading from single phase to 3-phase. - My First Home Build Journey Land Contract, 19/09/12 C@ Builder Initial Deposit, 30/09/12 ⛳ Land Settlement, 31/10/12 HIA Contract Signed, 10/11/12 Colour Selection, 06/12/12 Re: ducted aircon costs 6Nov 10, 2012 11:08 pm well the thing is clared0n says the quote includes the 3phase power upgrade. While P1antat1on says upgrade to 3phase is $500 ish, which i've included. So essentially its just included in their base price!! Re: ducted aircon costs 8Nov 11, 2012 10:24 am There are costs other than running the three-phase power to the meter box - you'll need an upgraded meter that works with three phase, additional circuit breakers and if I were you I'd be wanting surge protection on your electrical board as well (you'll also need an isolator point for the aircon unit too). Make sure all of these things are included in whatever price you are paying. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: ducted aircon costs 9Nov 11, 2012 5:53 pm There is two chances of getting a unit like that for around $4k, slim and none! The $4k may be the unit, but no installation (duct work, pipe work, electrical work, zone motors etc) plus the upgrade for 3 phase power, which means double the cable between the street and house! It would all be buried in the contract somewhere that's not obvious! But the second price does sound reasonable for an installed unit! 2 Re: ducted aircon costs 11Nov 12, 2012 1:56 pm TO be fair, I am going to stick up for Clarendon on this one. We had one of those $995 promotions which included some things that I think should not even be an option (treated frames for one). It also included the aircon. At tender we were advised that this was a 2 zone 6.0hp brisvis box. Hugely underpowered for our house in my opinion. And two zones is useless for such a large house. Anyway.... we aced how much we would be credited back, and to my surprise we were credited $10k. As you will see from my blog we are moving along quite well now and looking forward to getting our actron ESP plus system in. which is about $14K (19HP- 7 Zones)! If you are looking at action I found east coast air highly competitive if you are in the right area. Sounds Like 19kwatt to me whic is very similar to the 6hp the builder was putting in.
