Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 17, 2012 9:41 pm We are in the process of purchasing a block of land that is very steep, we are guessing over 40degrees. We have spoken to home owners around the area as to their experiences builing on their sites, and got pretty positive feedback, but we would welcome anyones advice or experience about how costly these builds can be, and any other negatives or positives. As we are still in the early phase of purchase, we have not yet sought advice from geo-technicians, It is worth adding that there is a pretty spectacular view to be seen from this block, so we are hoping it will be worth the effort. Any feedback would be great. Re: Building on steep block 3Sep 17, 2012 10:23 pm It is on the mid north coast of NSW, a place called Tallwoods, near Hallidays Point. I'd also be doing a couple of quick drawings showing at least an outline floorplan and a side elevation and speaking to a couple of structural engineers or builders about your site. Stewie Re: Building on steep block 6Sep 23, 2012 4:05 pm A very steep block could have a lot of slippage which would require deep footings... big bucks. On a 40 degree slope, I would say your footings may have to go very deep. What does your soil test say about the block? http://polehomeflythrough.torrenssteel.com.au/ Re: Building on steep block 7Oct 04, 2012 3:27 pm We went through the process of building on a steep block 2years ago now..time flies...it is going to cost more, but my advice is to work with the block, the less cut and fill the better as its the retaining that will cost you big dollars, make the use of light weight materials, and building on stumps. Find a good builder, look at what builder are building around you, there are many who will try to put you off. The advantages are that you will get an individual home, and being on a side of a hill you can make use of great breezes, and great views. Have a look at the lighthome.com.au there are heaps of ideas. Good luck it will be a roller coaster ride but persistence will pay off. We went to a specialist sloping block builder who said our block didn't fit within any of their plans. So now we are tendering with project builders who also allow custom builds. Land at Chermside At tender stage Re: Building on steep block 9Oct 21, 2012 7:33 am i dont think it is so hard if you get the right builder. read my article about building on sloping sites. if you want to more let me know. i love helping people build on steep sites Hi Everyone, One of my favourite parts of a build is when the temporary fence comes down and the home begins to reveal itself. It also means we are on the home straight… 103 367234 4 4704 Give Jonathan a call. Tell him you know me. He is in my opinion the best surveyor I have ever worked with.
