Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 6042Sep 09, 2012 8:04 pm monkeypantz Yesterday we got to the house and found the tilers working Looked like they had just started, with a couple of dozen tiles laid in the laundry and ensuite. In the interests of not getting in their way (and the oh&s nightmare that a toddler on their work site could have been!) we didn't hang around, just long enough to see that the internal painting is complete, and the showers and bath have been waterproofed. The SS told us a couple of weeks ago that once the tilers tell him how long they think they will be he will book in the rest of the trades and should be able to give us an estimated completion date hi monkeypantz, we are practically at the same stage! even though we started before you, but least we are sharing the same excitment or anixous waiting! hopefully we get the same handover day! keep us posted..... Re: Porter Davis homes 6043Sep 09, 2012 8:07 pm hi guys just a quick blog update........wish it could be more exciting......... Re: Porter Davis homes 6044Sep 10, 2012 8:34 am Your tiles look really nice ma. Your tiling is well ahead of ours, and all our living areas are to be tiled, but it was nice to see them working on Saturday, it gives me the impression that they are keen to get it done Our SS has given us no indication of handover other than to say "definitely October". It seems like an agonisingly long time, but in reality it's 3-7.5 weeks away Re: Porter Davis homes 6045Sep 10, 2012 8:59 am With the end in sight we are starting to panic a little about blinds which it turns out we should be organising weeks ago! We're keen to get them in ASAP once we are in, which is what appealed to us about the inclusion of Birk in the rewards program (we were told they could co-ordinate with the SS to have the blinds in by handover, given enough time), but we weren't really impressed. We have also checked out some of the big chains; Blind Factory (who don't do our area any more), Kresta and Dollar Curtains, as well as Into Blinds (who keep leaving fliers on our windows). I have also spoken to Felicity at Kreative (another PD rewards supplier) but we had some technical difficulties, hopefully we have cleared that up and we will get something from her this week. We are definitely getting weary of blinds, showrooms and salespeople. On Saturday we went to Melbourne Curtains and Blinds in Coburg and they were fantastic! Great prices on Australian products, very helpful service, quick turnaround. We will wait and see what Kreative comes back with, but we will probably be going with MCB. For those looking at window coverings, we got a tip from a salesperson in a showroom. She told us that the salespeople in the showrooms have prices that they have to quote and can't discount, but the consultants who come out to the house and measure work on commission, so will discount to close a sale. I'm not sure if it is true of all companies, but worth bearing in mind. Re: Porter Davis homes 6046Sep 10, 2012 1:31 pm Hi, Has anyone engaged Peter Limburg for his Inspection Services (Final Inspect)? What are his charges like? We are currently building a Sandringham 45 in Doncaster East and we are just about to have our slab poured either today or tomorrow! (if the beautiful melbourne weather holds up) My blog is currently quite out dated, but I'll hopefully get it up to date soon!! We have used Peter for two inspections so far and will do so again for the final inspection. We have been happy with him and his reports. I don't know what we paid off the top of my head, I'll check tonight Re: Porter Davis homes 6048Sep 10, 2012 5:28 pm When is it too late to make changes? I'm in week 6 of my build, estimated 18 weeks (minimum) it's only a little terrace house. The floors aren't due to be started until week 15 at least looking at the building schedule. I'm having Bolero timber laminate flooring and carpet. I've asked if a patch of carpet in my living area can be timber flooring instead of carpet and have been told it's too late because all of the materials have been ordered. I was offered to not have the carpet laid in that area but was told I can't add timber flooring to this section now. I understand that everything needs to be ordered and planned for but it's at my expense not the builders, I would have expected that something like this can still be changed this far in, it's only a small area. I fear that there will be a colour variation between the floor laid now, and the floor when I lay it after hand over. When is it too late to make this kind of change? I see people on the forums able to have changes like this much closer the date the works are to be completed, is it a case of different strokes for different folks? I was more than willing to pay for the flooring without expecting a credit for carpet. I do believe my BC has done what she can but is this someone else higher in management or a different position without customer contact that simply doesn't understand? Plus being excited about the build makes you feel like "just Hurry". I know excatly how you feel! Re: Porter Davis homes 6054Sep 11, 2012 11:37 am monkeypantz Pictures of last week's progress are now on the blog Looking good monkeypantz! Its getting closer! Least ur place looks nice and clean. Ours looks like a mess and wish i could just go there and clean it up, sometimes i dont know how these tradies can work in such a mess...... Re: Porter Davis homes 6055Sep 11, 2012 11:42 am Our SS called this morning with the following update: With the good weather today the remaining cladding on the exterior will be completed today Tiles will be finished by the end of this week PCI is booked for 10 October with Settlement expected 17 October Re: Porter Davis homes 6056Sep 11, 2012 12:13 pm Has anyone got flyscreens/screen doors through porter davis that seem to be very fragile and flimsy? Re: Porter Davis homes 6058Sep 11, 2012 2:15 pm Doreen_Kallara33 Has anyone got flyscreens/screen doors through porter davis that seem to be very fragile and flimsy? Check. I actually didn't get a screen door flyscreen on my sliding door. Master bed one was damaged but we only noticed it when the wind started up on our 2nd night and it started tapping out of control against the master bed window frame. Kept us up for a few nights before I located the issue and it was the damaged flyscreen. I stuck a bit of foam in there to stop it shaking about. Other damaged ones were picked up before handover (from what I can remember anyway with all the other issues we had). In fact the windows period seemed a bit flimsy and some had to be straightened before handover. 3 month maintenance is gonna be an absolute DOOZY!!!. Until then I like to think that my PD relationship is like one with an old girlfriend that went really bad and ended horrible. I just want to avoid contact unless its absolutely necessary. ... she can keep my good jeans and favorite jacket for now... its not worth it... Re: Porter Davis homes 6059Sep 11, 2012 2:32 pm Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone took up the promotion late last year to pay $1000 andhave PD landscape and do the front driveway of your new home? I'm just interested as to if anyone has taken up this offer and/or the quality? Actually I had the whole week off and was as sick as a dog. I noted everything and documented this with photos too. Thought I might have been up for wr given there were some 'light' things in there too. But I'm not too handy and they said they'd do things week 1 but didn't. But the guy was super nice, seemed super honest and I was impressed. He actually inspected many things on his own and showed me tonnes of things to undo / remove / open things. And it tool nearly 2 hours at a leisurely pace. I was very pleasantly surprised. Doesn't mean it'll translate to them 'doing' anything and I'm certainly not keen for the tradie procession again, but will report back in a month. PS I do remember they did try and book me in for the inspection at 2 months, not 3, and I very politely told them to bugger off !! Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12345 Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74717 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
