For longer runs, Schweigen is good. We have the Schweigen, mounted over an island bench with a bulkhead over the whole island. The smoke detector is 1m away from the bulkhead, under 3m from the stove top. Even with wok cooking, it hasn't gone off once. Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 5Aug 28, 2012 12:00 pm not sure of budget yet but I would think mid range.... Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 7Oct 01, 2012 10:23 am The IsoDrive Schweigen is a safe bet. Very quiet! Good suction too. You might want to check out their website to see more: www.schweigen.com.au They are sold through Harvey Normal and other retailers I believe. Good luck! Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 8Oct 18, 2012 2:12 pm the Schweigen looks good if a bit exxy - might see if I can find one around town cheers Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 10Oct 25, 2012 9:46 am I have now found out you can get the Schweigen with 1, 2 or a super powerful motor. Anyone got any idea if the 1 motor is enough? cheers Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 12Nov 01, 2012 8:47 am Source all the various brands and models that have a net suction that is within your specs you want. Review each one for reliability, costs, warranties etc. Make a short list from that of any of those that are left that you would be prepared to have in your kitchen. From there have a look in the seconds and clearance shops. This is how we found ours at about half its retail price. So far performs very well. No it's not an external motor which would have been nice, but they didn't fit into our budget. This way we now have a rangehood we most likely wouldn't have purchased due to the original cost. Schweigen 90cm Undermount Rangehood at Harvey Norman's for $699 It has 1030m3/hr of airflow and is a non-silent model, but for that price I can't find any thing else that moves that much air Any ideas? Building is both exciting and stressful Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 15May 13, 2014 2:40 pm happysarah Why is this rangehood so cheap? I'm guessing it's quite cheap as it's one of their non-silent models. Seems like a good buy. I've got a Schweigen silent undermount and have been happy with it so far. Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 16May 13, 2014 3:24 pm I queried an schweigen approved installer over these two models: I have checked out the Harvey Norman exclusive (UM-900MS vs UM1170-9SP (1600m3)- "The three speed is fine, it has the same power on high as the five speed but you only have two other speed options instead of four" whereas the model you stated is HN-9UM. I'm only doing chinese stirfry, casserole type dishes with occasional pan fried. The installer and a sales rep advised me to go the 1600m3 as if you went the twin motor (1100m3), you have to cut two holes in your roof space whereas you will only need one for the 1600m3 and the 650m3 is pointless. http://boostaoakfordsa.wordpress.com Site works: 26/8/14 Trench: 2/9/14 Slab: 8/9/14 Frame: 18/9/14 Bricks: 24/10/14 2nd fix: 24/11/14 Handover: End Feb 2015 Re: Best brand/model of rangehood 900mm?? 17May 15, 2014 2:53 pm Thank you boosta. Sorry I did not provide the model number of the rangehood that I was after more information. As you have found out is HU-9UM. Are both UM-900MS or UM1170-9SP available in the single motor 1600m3 version? Is there a big price difference? Are both UM-900MS or UM1170-9SP available in the single motor 1600m3 version? Is there a big price difference? UM-900MS - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/schweige ... ehood.html - $1198 - I believe so, you might want to clarify with HN or schweigen. UM1170-9SP is the 1600m3 model and my builder quoted to supply only - $1827 (in lieu of builders std), it will be around that price at harvey norman or spartan electrical (got quoted $1860). Found my chat transcript with the schweigen sales: The UM-900MS is made from a lower grade of steel compared to the UM1170-9S. As you mentioned the UM-900MS only has 3 speeds. (11:47:56) Haley: The UM-900MS has aluminum filters where the UM1170-9S has mesh filters. (11:48:41) Haley: Basically, the UM-900MS is a cheaper version of the UM1170-9S with less functions (11:50:36) Visitor 70114650: I saw the UM1170-9SP (1600m3) at a showroom and I can not 'feel' or heard the exhaust from speeds 1 to 3. The sales rep told me to run it at speeds 4 to 5 during cooking. I asked if that will wear out the motor sooner and he said now. (11:50:42) Visitor 70114650: *No. (11:52:47) Haley: Yes that is correct. Speeds 4 and 5 are usually used during heavy cooking. Speeds 1 to 3 are used for basic style/ regular cooking.
