Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Aug 14, 2012 2:08 pm Our new home build consisted of a stars we've unit in particular fitted with a 3015VDU38IRT unit. This has 1 input via the ONT and 4 outputs. However I have no idea how the thing should be setup and all instructions don't give the answers I am after. We weren't left with any paperwork or given a rundown on its operation. The questions I have are Do I need power turned on for the aerial to work? How do I setup the gain control? Do I need the fm trap on or off? Problem I have is with power connected I get some channels but not others. When power turned off I get some back but loose others. Each tv is different as well. Plus turning the gain changes the channels being received different when power on or off. On one tv had all channels at one stage but 2 were dropping in and out like bad signal Please help MDJ Homes - Bordeaux 14 + now with improvements Star serve setup questions 2Aug 14, 2012 5:58 pm Hi There's a manual here - http://updates.clipsal.com/clipsalonline/Files/Brochures/W0000703.pdf but it may not help. You mention an ONT - do you have an external antenna or do you get your TV signal over fibre into the ONT? If the latter then a common problem is that the signal is too strong, which overwhelms the tuner in the TV. If you have an antenna, do you have a masthead amplifier? Is it powered? Also, check that the cables are screwed on nice and tight. Can your try connecting one of the TV outlets directly to the antenna/ont? Unless you are connecting an FM radio receiver to the system, set the FM trap to on. You might need to get an antenna technician to come and check out your installation with a signal level meter. If the signal is too high then they can fit additional attenuation to fix the problem. Paul Re: Star serve setup questions 3Aug 15, 2012 12:39 am thanks for that we dont have an aerial - comes through the fibre connection might have to get someone out to look MDJ Homes - Bordeaux 14 + now with improvements Star serve setup questions 4Aug 15, 2012 7:52 am Hi If it is coming from the fibre then it is almost certainly too strong a signal - the Starserve distributor has an amplifier in it which is probably clipping and distorting the signal. If you have a Jaycar near by you can try one of these http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LT3050 between the ONT and the Starserve distributor.
