This could be increased to 1.5 meters if the joists are spaced appropriately. These need to support a weight of approx 180 kgs. I have no experience of such things, so my question is, would a typical West Australian home built around year 2000 have ceiling joist capable of supporting such weight ? Any advice would be welcome. Your house would have trusses for the roof, even though they would probably support that sort of weight, I would not recommend hanging 180 Kgs off a truss roof. What are you planning on hanging off the ceiling? The item is a peice of personal equipment, that will hang from two points. I am told the equipment is capable of supporting 230 kgs once suspended. It comes in the form of a cradle, so the weight is spread between the two anchor points. If not able to use the recommended method of screwing the eye bolts into joists, do I have any other options I could consider ? Re: Fixing Eye Bolts to Ceiling Joists 6Aug 05, 2012 9:38 pm It may be possible to add a couple of heavy duty beams in the ceiling space that run parallel to the trusses and sit on the walls either side of the room, depending on whether you can a) actually get them into the roof space and b) whether there are any obstacles in the way, such as noggins, etc. This way the load will be supported by your wall, not the roof frame.
