I like a good WIP but also think your idea of removing it and adding more bench space/big cupboards instead will definitely open the kitchen up and be much more aesthetically pleasing. Kayla Re: kitchen size 11Jul 26, 2012 9:42 pm I agree with kjw7. Swap the living and dining. It makes sense for the kitchen to be connected with where you eat. I don't see a problem with theatre off the living. The picture is very helpful. In the first post, I thought the 2.4 metres included the fridge space. I am guessing the space next to the fridge is the door to the laundry. If you were to get rid of the walk in pantry (and I can see the benefits although I love a WIP) and having more bench space and possibly a window, the problem is you would then have no pantry cupboards unless you put a thin one between the fridge and the stove which might look a bit naff. Have you considered having having pantry cupboards against the wall to bed one and also moving the fridge there as well. This would move the door to laundry along and also shorten that end of breakfast bar but then where the WIP is now, you would have a wrap around bench so you would gain space here on the breakfast bar. This should then give space for two big pantry cupboards and also eliminates the problem of blocking people moving around the kitchen when the fridge door is open which alt0160 said. Also means the wrap around bench is the visible part from the living / dining, which makes the kitchen space seem bigger. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. I would shrink it to 1.4 and add another 100mm to the breakfast bar. 900mm does not leave a lot of space on breakfast bar side of sink (had it in my old house, always wished I had another 100mm) Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. Obviously stove would go to external wall & fridge could go into pantry? You could have a cavity slider from your pantry to your laundry too if that works with the rest of your house plans. Re: kitchen size 14Jul 29, 2012 2:20 pm You've all given me loads of ideas! Trying to cut and paste to see what i come up with definitely going to investigate getting a deeper breakfast bar...i think 900mm might just be all they offer in the promo but hoping it can be upgraded! Re: kitchen size 15Jul 30, 2012 7:03 pm travelbug What I do when I want to rearrange a bathroom is- (I know you are doing a kitchen but same principal applies) draw the room on the concrete (I use the garage floor). Draw in the furniture (cupboards or bath etc) then two of you stand in it. Do you feel squashed? It gives a better feel for tight fitting things and space between corners etc. (we even pretend we're having a shower LOL) We need to get a life I know. Basic but it works for us. Sorry to hijack but I just wanted to say thank you to travel bug for the advice on drawing it up on concrete. I just did this with one of our bathrooms and decided to change it, just in time for the plumber to start his drainage work tomorrow. Re: kitchen size 16Jul 31, 2012 6:04 pm xxkatxx Ok I've had a try at drawing up a picture... I'm thinking maybe delete the WIP and have the kitchen wrap around and just have big cupboards for the pantry? I would not want to have a pantry at an outside wall, which in principle takes away any daylight in the kitchen. I would have tall cabinets on the opposite side (bed 1). Depending of the space between the two rows of cabinets, either a galley or u-shape kitchen but then with "dead corners". The door to the laundry I would move the depth of the tall cabinets to the right. A wall on both ends of the cabinets could enclose them. Re: kitchen size 17Aug 01, 2012 2:59 pm where is the current door position for the bedroom and the laundry? 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! We're in the design phase .... Re: kitchen size 18Aug 01, 2012 5:15 pm The doors are opposite each other with the laundry one behind the fridge. the bedroom one is set in a mmetre or so. I've just realised that the plans we had drawn up used the wrong block size so ee get an extra 70cm of kitchen width! Im going to do some drawings with a long WIP where the fridge is down into the laundry area and then wrap bench around the wall end and create and entry to the laundry in the kitchen. i didn't want to have to go thru the kitchen to get to the laundry but it solves a lot of problems! Bigger the better for storage for me IMO. But I guess it's harder to tell the cost/benefit in your example - mainly the 'cost'? If you go 700mm, what are you doing extra… 2 1048 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size.
