However the friendly neighbor thing to do would be to ask. Check to make sure that is on the boundary (not just inside). If it is the boundary you can attach a gate as it has become common property. If the wall is just inside their boundary, you can do as the above and ask if they mind - otherwise you may need to erect a post. I had a chat with mine and he was happy with bolting to the wall. But I asked. thats the key. In WA zero lot is actually zero lot. We build 10mm in from the boundary.
