Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 11, 2012 2:33 pm We are renovating a kitchen in a 1960s wooden Qld style house, and after much pain and angst finally got a design we were happy with, and are delighted with the kitchen. However, we are completely stuck on the splashback colour. So far we have been through 6 sample pots (white smoke - a light blue, and a range of browns/beiges: metalic silken chocolate, tavern, puddle, camel hide, hog bristle) and arn't convinced on any of them. Most of our house is brown/beige in colour (Hog Bristle or raw stone suede walls), the rumpus which ajoins the kitchen has a milk chocolate wall. The kitchen has natural bamboo floors, natural white cupboards, Caesarstone linen benchtops, and dulux hog bristle walls. The kitchen is small, but we are going to end up with quite a lot of glass as the rangehood is on a wall by itself. We always thought we would have a dark brown splashback, but in the small space it completely closed the room in. Then we tried lighter browns but they all looked a bit ordinary, so then we tried the white smoke which looks good on the bench where we have cupboards but doesn't go well with hog bristle. We want the splash back to be a bit of a feature, but it can't be too dark, and needs to go well with linen CS, hog bristle walls and natural white cupboards. We like the concept of blue, but what blue? also open to other suggestions. I'm new to this forum so will try and post photos (sorry about the quality) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also have been debating if we run the splashback all the way up to the rangehood, or stop at the height of the splashback underneath the overhead cupboards (500 mm above bench, rangehood is 740 mm above bench Help please, Tam Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 2Jul 11, 2012 2:37 pm Another photo maybe..... it worked first time but doesn't seem to want to work again for me... http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/407/photo4ew.jpg/ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 3Jul 11, 2012 3:20 pm Hi Tasmin, my folks have just put in a new kitchen in their early 90s home, and have gone with a blue splashback. Here is a pic, if you're interested I can find out the colour name. Obviously the floors need to be relayed. And walls will be painted stark white. Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 5Jul 11, 2012 3:52 pm What about one of those smoky mirror splashbacks with sparkles - that would add some pizzazz? Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 6Jul 12, 2012 2:48 pm Why not take a look at a metalic champagne colour? Have done quite a few of these with white kitchens and they look great. It wont be too bold and a colour you wont regret in a few years. ie it wont go out of fashion. With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. I was a cabinetmaker by trade and am now a senior manager of a kitchen company. Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 7Jul 16, 2012 10:16 pm Thanks for your suggestions - we are still stuck, got another splashback guy out who tried to talk us into snow white, painted the wall and we don't like it. My hubby was keen on burnt orange, but our problem is we've got a very large area of glass for the kitchen space, as the rangehood is quite high and doesn't have cupboards around it, and the kitchen is small (its 3.5 sq m of glass in all, almost as much as the benches). Oh well - took us 4 years to come up with a kitchen design, I hope it doesn't take that long to work out the splashback! Do splash back companies match paints or do colours from a particular brand? If so, grab a large piece of card board, a couple pots of sample paint and paint the various colours and see what you like best. It might help you get a feel for various colours. Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 13Jul 18, 2012 9:11 am I couldn't do mirrors, I am always looking at myself in them, I'm not vain or anything but if I walk past one I have to look at myself, lol. I would be looking at an olive green (not lime) - there are some nice Olice Green Glass tiles out there... Aaron Smith Re: Splashback Stress Syndrome - Help 14Jul 31, 2012 2:31 pm Dreamer Green!!! I'd go a green or a dark red. If it had a bit of sparkly finish to it, that would be good (but not too much though, just a vague shimmering look) 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block).
