Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - 1 week to go 221Jun 15, 2012 8:30 pm I wanted DH to take some more piccies today but he said there were tradies everywhere, doors off cabinets and loads of clutter so he didn't bother. Not sure if we can get in over the weekend but will go up tomorrow morning in case someone is working. Otherwise it will be after the clean on Monday. So funny about the range hood, I looked at them but we didn't have the distance for the ducting required, but clearly not something they install every day. Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - 1 week to go 223Jun 15, 2012 8:50 pm Gogo it has amazed me how long other builders seem to take. The speed of our build is nothing special for PJB! They seem to get most of their builds done within a 10 -12 week period from slab and have a very good reputation for quality. It's a family business and many of their tradies have been with them for 10+ years. Every so often they go off for a male bonding weekend together and it just seems that because they all know each other so well they work very much as a team. A least that's the impression I get and I really think it makes a big difference because none of them would do anything that gives the next guy a problem. Our SS won't finally confirm handover date until tomorrow morning. One problem is that because of the position of all the pipes under the kitchen sink our double pull-out bin won't fit. So not sure what's going to happen about that. Cabinet maker has taken various drawers and cupboard doors away so I assume they are finalizing cut-outs etc now that all the taps are in. SS has been great and has allowed us to get some things done before handover. So carpets are being fitted today and shutters on Thursday. Builder's cleanis supposed to be tomorrow so will take photos after that. Going to see what the tiler will charge to seal all the grout otherwise I'll be on my hands and knees doing it on Saturday / Sunday. DH has too many back and joint problems so won't be able to help. So much to do! I'm getting in a bit of a panic as the removal company is booked for next Tuesday. But not for long - handover scheduled for Tues next week instead of Fri this week. Cleaner was in today and almost everything is done so here are a few more photos - mainly kitchen and bathroom. Also we asked the tiler to tile the gap between the shower and unit / mirror but now it all looks a bit lopsided. So pleased for you!!!!! We have the same bath now it is white!!!!! Never seen those plug things hidden in the kitchen before. Good idea, instead of wrecking your gorgeous bench with a cut out. Lovely!!!! Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - photo overload p12 231Jun 21, 2012 8:29 am Looks fab! Love the roofline! It all looks lovely. You have got great taste.... you must be feeling very happy about how it is all going. I have also asked our tiles to tile up to the edge of where the mirror will be, like you, I thought the tiles would frame the mirror (at least on that side) but even though it doesn't look terrible do you think you should've just tiled to the edge of the shower?? By the way - I love the look of that vanity - 3 drawer set up is cool!!!! Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - photo overload p12 233Jun 21, 2012 10:50 am Thanks everyone and yes we're delighted. The whole experience has been brilliant (ok apart from all the stressful bits ....... which is most of it haha). Kiwi, I miss the purple splash of colour - was beginning to get used to it Rocketship, thanks for your comment on the vanity - I'm still not sure about it but it is growing on me. I don't know about that tiling. Before the mirror went up it looked odd so we asked the tiler just to tile the lower bit up to level with the splash back tiles. We all, including the tiler, assumed the mirror would go to the shower tile edge. So when it didn't, we asked him to tile the strip next to the mirror. I think if we'd only seen it after the mirror was installed, we might have left it untiled all the way up, but I'm not sure because it would have left a very narrow strip of light paint in between two dark areas. I'm thinking of buying more tiles and getting the rest of the wall tiled to mirror height ( haven't mentioned this to DH, will live with it for a while). I've actually just returned from meeting the tiler on site and he said, yes definately tile to the edge of the mirror (a bit different to you because I have white paint and white tiles) but he said the neatest finish would be to do that especially because on the other side of the shower the tiles will go past the shower screen the same distance so it will looked balanced - so all decided. Would love to tile the whole lot really but it all adds up!!! I still can't believe the quality of your build in that time frame - have to admit I am very jealous of the speed!!!! Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - photo overload p12 235Jun 21, 2012 11:32 am Wow Ruth, you are almost there! It looks absolutely stunning - really does. Those basins are so beautiful. And the bath looks great - really comfy! Your buiulders are amazing, such a speedy job. Good luck for the last few days! Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - photo overload p12 237Jun 22, 2012 5:07 pm Wow, super stylish. Your kitchen is fab and those bathroom basins are gorgeous - great to see something a little bit different. Those hidden GPOs are a fantastic idea, never seen that before! Love the pull out bin, havent seen that particular one before The window splashback in the kitchen is cool! Re: Our Sea-change Adventure - photo overload p12 238Jun 22, 2012 5:15 pm Thanks guys. Alt0160, funny you should mention the kitchen bins. The plumber took them out this morning because he hadn't finished fitting the sink drains. Now they don't fit back in a couple of cms too high to clear the pipes. Now he's finished I need to measure up and see if I can find a similar but smaller version. Handover confirmed for Tuesday, painter just has to finish the touch-ups. Well done. Seeing those egg basins again has tempted me.... Oh, and as for: Bath is in finally but they swapped the purple one for a white one Now why would you think to do that? Purple would have been such a becoming colour And I saw your purple post too kiwi.... Looking brilliant! Handover is so close now. I agree, think the 3 drawers in the vanity look superb! Wishing I had thought of that! Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35332 5 10494 2 2965 |
