In return I always remove my shoes if I'm going into someone else's home unless they tell me not too. My kids just do it automatically. We will be having a "no shoe policy" in our new house too, I hate dirty marks on carpet. So far no-one seems offended when they come to visit. Maybe they're not game to say anything I'd like to think that people who come into my home feel comfortable shoes or no shoes. My friends are pretty direct and they would certainly tell me otherwise. I think I've only ever asked a couple of people, usually they see our shoes on the shoes racks at the front door and follow suit. I've never seen it to be an issue. Thank goodness I’m not a stiletto wearing decorator, or I would be shoeless in every home I go to. Out of pure curtsey, people should ask before they enter your home about their shoes. I never enter one of my client’s homes without asking would they like me to take my shoes off. It’s just curtsey for the owner’s home.
