Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 125May 10, 2012 12:10 am I'm so glad that you are reconsidering. Owner-building can sometimes be a lonely and daunting experience. Well I'm not sure if lonely is the right word but I've sometimes found that we feel like we're in it on our own without any support if that makes sense. It can be so theraputic to share some of your thoughts and experiences with people who are going through similar things as you and understand what you're going through. It is such a unique and life consuming experience. I must admit that I seem to post more when things go wrong and I need to have a bit of a whinge to blow off steam, but I think the ob message board is great for that too. A few months ago we got into a chat on the board about what people found the hardest about owner building and we started chatting about trying to manage it with young kids, dealing with tantrums in show rooms, trying to deal with everyday life when your DH is working on the build site every weekend for months on end, dealing with the stress when you realise you've made a mistake. Suddenly for that couple of days the world of owner building felt a lot less lonely for a few of us and we realised that we were living the same experience with the same difficulties and ups and downs that ob'ing brings. Sorry, I'm waffling now. I just hope that you can enjoy sharing your amazing experience of your incredible build with us all, and that you can find this board a great source of support in a sometimes scarey and daunting experience. Best of luck for a smooth and speedy council approval!! But we just got agreement from Vicroads, neighbors and the council that we can seal the road up to the house which is nice. But we just got agreement from Vicroads, neighbors and the council that we can seal the road up to the house which is nice. Sealed roads are much more pleasant (and nicer on cars) than gravel / dirt. Good news on the sealed road Paula. . . I know a couple of people who had dirt or gravel driveway then a little bit of concrete at the end to shake off all the gravel. I'd rather have a sealed road all the way through though. . . we had to deal with no driveway for 18 months. . . NEVER AGAIN!!!! Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 131May 12, 2012 1:55 pm The first works we are going to do is put in a proper driveway (initially gravel) with a turning area and parking bays for the tradies along with a lot of drainage to stop the building site turning into a muddy mess. But the best news is that a actual building (the shed off the side access road) will be completed within two weeks ! I'll update more when I get back down there and take some decent pics as the weather has been terrible every time I've been.
