Waiting for quotes and trying to decide who to go with........ We are ready to build sooner rather than later though we get more excited by the minute!!!!! How do you decide which one to build with when there is soooo many!!! It was my first time out at the block by myself today very peaceful........... ~ okjorg viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55196&p=844089#p844089 Settlement date - 13 Jan Final plans - 24 Sept Council approval - 21 Oct First peg in the ground - 7 Nov Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 770Apr 26, 2012 7:37 pm HAHAHAHA! Hopefully I'll get a little more inspiration tonight. . . let's build you some bathrooms! T. . . love you too! This may become the "spread the love and fix up the bathrooms" thread. Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 771Apr 26, 2012 7:38 pm okjorg oh by all means I am still talking with a whole heap of different builders. Waiting for quotes and trying to decide who to go with........ We are ready to build sooner rather than later though we get more excited by the minute!!!!! How do you decide which one to build with when there is soooo many!!! It was my first time out at the block by myself today very peaceful........... I hope you had a big long sit down and enjoyed the serenity! We used to take picnics out to our block. . . saddos! HAHAHA Word of mouth is how we decided on ours. . . not word of foot, or word of little finger. Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 772Apr 26, 2012 8:06 pm We TOTALLY take picnics out to the block!!! Not sad at all!!!!! but alas no picnic for mama today. Word of mouth is how I've found a lot of builders so far....... I feel this will be how we decide too...... someone who has built locally. I am very confident we will choose someone soon. April 30th is the end of the $10 000 Queensland Building Boost. So I am hoping we can get serious after that....... A lot of builders have been trying to cram in as many contracts before the end of the week as they possibly can....... I feel there is a lot of rushed houses being built over the next 3-6 months....... ~ okjorg viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55196&p=844089#p844089 Settlement date - 13 Jan Final plans - 24 Sept Council approval - 21 Oct First peg in the ground - 7 Nov Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 773Apr 26, 2012 8:15 pm OKJORG. . . maybe you're just a saddo too!!! HAHAHA yep. . . that one is DEFINITELY your choice. Really excellent that you have Leece to talk to about their ups and downs on a local level. .. give you a benchmark. Oh yay! So you should be able to get $10K off the price of the build after April then! Isn't it funny how the prices go. . . I put my apartment on the market a while before the big $21K bonus. . . no interest. . . bonus kicks in. . . . SALE! Wish I'd waited a couple of months, but I didn't want to chance it. I think you're definitely doing the right thing by waiting a bit. . . oh, hold on. . . you don't have a plan yet. . . you HAVE to wait. . .HAHAHAHAHA Ok. .. on the fridge front, this is the one thing I'm hugely happy we got from this, as I'll remember it next time we build (if). . . depth. . . I had a bit of a look on the Bing Lee site. . . the majority of the big pretty double door babys are somewhere between 700 and 800mm deep. I propose we make your fridge hole 800mm deep. Unless you want to make it 900mm deep to take pretty much any fridge? Decision required. .. PLEASE!!! Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 774Apr 26, 2012 8:38 pm We have the double shower, I'm thinking have one blasting on my back and one on my front. Or its always fun for hubby and I to share the shower. Each side has its own flickmixer and shower rose and they work individually. Funny you mention picnics we used to take the kids down all the time and take a picnic with us. We mowed our block every two weeks trying to keep the grass lovely and green... when the builders moved in it all got destroyed.. so don't spend too much time prettying the lawn lol.. lesson learnt. Waiting on Larry the Electrician to give us a shopping list so we can go pick and choose lights My kitchen is being assembled this week and then hopefully it'll go in after the plasterers have finished. Don't be afraid to mix and match brands when it comes to your appliances. We went for a cheaper rangehood that looked the same as the dearer one and did the same job. We went with JJ Kerrs for our appliances, they will do a great rate for you. Oh and Harvey Norman has 50% off canvas prints right now for mothers day, I took advantage of it today and ordered some nice prints of my family and kids to put up in our living areas. Darren has a 5000L raintank as standard but we upgraded to a 10000L. It doesn't cost that much more. Our neighbours have 3 x 20000L tanks just on their shed... Get an external tv point and power point on your back patio.. we've done that so the boys can watch the footy outside when State of Origin is on. hmm... thinking.. will put more up when I think of it. okjorg No way!!!! Keep going!!! That all sounds great!! Darren sounded great on the phone... so I've emailed him a few details and we'll see what happens!! Our houses are going to end up looking completely different Good to know about the cabinets..... I've heard a few different things about a few different places!!! I do love the double vanity look so I guess it is just the double shower I am ummming and aaahhhing about...... so how does your double shower work Leece?? Does it have one set of handles to turn on and off?? Does water come out both heads or can you pick and choose?? Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 775Apr 26, 2012 8:41 pm I think 800mm is plenty big enough!!!! I was thinking about this today.... If a double door fridge is completely recessed...... what happens to the doors when you open the fridge????? Do the doors smack the edges of the wall because it is recessed back so far????? 800mm allows all of the fridge to be recessed and if the door is the only thing jutting out..... than I think that would be a good thing wouldn't it!!????........ ps who knows what sort of fridge I will actually end up buying down the track..... WHO KNOWS!!!!!! ~ okjorg viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55196&p=844089#p844089 Settlement date - 13 Jan Final plans - 24 Sept Council approval - 21 Oct First peg in the ground - 7 Nov Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 776Apr 26, 2012 8:49 pm Dont' forget to get the plumber to put plumbing behind the fridge even if you don't currently have an ice/water fridge. The cabinetmakers actually recommend a 1m opening to allow good ventilation around your fridge also. We also got a tv/powerpoint in our bedroom even though we won't use one.. if we ever sell, that option is there in the room. Best to have all that done now before walls are completed... Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 777Apr 26, 2012 8:52 pm 1 METRE!!!!! Can you believe that!!! That is a big space!!!! I will go and investigate fridges again tonight I think.......... I have an idea how everything will look in my head...... but will it actually end up looking like that....???? ~ okjorg viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55196&p=844089#p844089 Settlement date - 13 Jan Final plans - 24 Sept Council approval - 21 Oct First peg in the ground - 7 Nov Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 778Apr 26, 2012 9:02 pm Thanks okjorg. . . will work with 800. I think if the fridge isn't as deep as your hole, just set if forward a bit. . . I don't think it will move back, and if it does, you can just put a bit of timber in between the back and the skirting board. .. Gawd. . . I am FULL of good ideas! Hey Leece, there's a wonderful thread on things you may have forgotten when building. . . somewhere. It includes plumbing water behind the fridge, and extra power points. .. there's stuff there that you'd never dream of. .. okjorg will lead you to it if you ask her nicely. Power points in the eaves at the front for Xmas lights, power and a light in the roof for if you have to do any work up there or want to store stuff . . . sounds like you've thought of a lot of it already though .. . good work!
