What about when you open the door on the opposite side is the vanities (with shower on one side and bath on the other, perhaps have the bath along the western wall if you need more space). My thinking is - when you open the door rather than looking onto a bath (particularly if someone is in it!), much nicer to see sinks with a mirror. Also better feng shui with positioning of door and mirror. Put the toilet behind the door (like in 2) so that you don't walk in looking at it. Just sayin' I think a good move to make Bed 4 larger. SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 647Apr 25, 2012 11:21 am ps: just noticed the double doors and sliders in the study. I think too many doors and therefore losing useful useful wall space. It is a study after all. I think the double doors are great onto the kitchen (particularly if kids are in there on the computer, you can have the doors open and be in the kitchen monitoring what sites they are on). So I would lose the sliders to the foyer, and instead make a little cloak cupboard near the front door (for coats, boots and umbrellas). On the study wall side inside you could then put shelving or book shelf etc. along that wall where there cloak cupboard juts in. Does that make sense? Something we haven't even considered yet! At least none of the beds face out of the doors. . . Okjorg said she wants to have the bath on the southern wall with a window above it. . . unless you can persuade her otherwise. . .which, let's face it, we've managed to do on just about everything else! HAHAHA! She also likes having a small linen on the way into the bathroom that's specifically for towels. One thing about having the window above the bath, as you pointed out with yours T. . .is that you have to either bend over the bath, or get in it to open the blinds or window. Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 650Apr 25, 2012 11:24 am jodge Nobody spotted my deliberate mistake. . .errrrr. . . There's no room in the ensuite for a window. . . unless we put a long thin one above the shower on the northern wall. A long thin one along the northern wall will be brilliant - great northern light. We have similar in our place (and previous although facing South so not nearly as much light) - if you place it above 1.5m then privacy is fine. Oh - depending on how tall okjorg and DH are? And make it the full width of the ensuite shower. Lovely. SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 651Apr 25, 2012 11:27 am jodge oooh. . . feng shui! But I did notice a few designs back (just didn't mention it) that the bedrooms looked excellent for Feng Shui. Bending over bath - yeah that was something I didn't want to, which is how we changed around our bathroom design too, as you know so well jodge But if she like a window opposite the door, well, the other really good upside for that is cross ventilation! Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 653Apr 25, 2012 11:45 am ALRIGHTY. . . went a bit crazy with T's idea. .. we now have two small coat cupboards (each can be either full length cupboard or shelves for shoes). . . fitted bookshelf on the other side for the study. .. alcove on the foyer side for a nice console table. . . bit of a feature. .. GRAND!!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This left the study rather narrow, so I definitely went crazy here. .. took 200mm from the entire front of the house. . . ended up taking the space from the courtyard, dining, space in between study and kitchen, and family room. . . extended the family room and deck to the north to give the extra space back to the family room. I figure that some won't like the coat cupboard being behind the front door, but this could be the cupboard that is left closed all the time! Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 654Apr 25, 2012 11:49 am I like your long window T! Opaque? Yep, there are sooo many things to consider, feng shui, cross-ventilation, personal tastes, wants and needs, what jodge thinks is best. . . SO MANY THINGS!!! Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 655Apr 25, 2012 1:12 pm I said to block those hall doors to study too.... with the table lamps and stuff...does no one read my posts!!! anyway, lets see if she likes it, she didnt comment when I had stuck a hall table there... (and a full bathroom, and a store cupboard...lets just go back 5 pages and re look shall we, oh, yes ...totally ignored!!) I think I like 3 or 4. you can sit on the loo, while the kids are in the bath. Re: Queenslanders building our first house!!!! 656Apr 25, 2012 1:18 pm kiwi ok I took plan B and changed a couple of things.. coming home looking into a messy study with only one doable wall..ARGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH it would depress me, so I have made it have 2 usable walls and a fantastic entry table with the most stunning lamp ever and the most gorgeous mirror above NOT like this!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I like to come in and see a calm entry. just my thing. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ nice I like having a smaller WIR in master for his clothes and a bigger for mine. I hate getting ready with us both in the same area...again, just my thing. he gets in my way, as I am trying to dress, and he stares! I would like having a small 'linen/store' for suitcases, christmas tree etc. although we have a pull down loft ladder for the space in the roof that we use, (we put plywood up there before the ceiling went up..so we can use that space for storing everything ) , so you could have that too, instead of using this room for those things, you could use this room as a toy storage room ( we have a toy cupboard / shared coats at the front door, now my kids are older. I still want to keep the good toys and need somewhere easy to access etc) I have given you a coat cupboard down the hall, you know you have rain...store the brolly in it etc the bathroom has a thin wall between loo and bath, or you could have a half wall..but I think a full is nicer,, cant be seeing them while in the bath! a window above loo and one above bath..lots of light. extend the kids bedroom to give you that step thing, although a valley in the roof is big bucks..$2000 each valley, so be aware of that extra expense. I do like planfans dining room...nice for alfresco etc Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ oh, now there is a surprise...sunshine mentions a full bathroom and one set of doors into the study and you all think she is FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
