We store lots of things in there plus a second fridge, a window lets in natural light during the day when the garage door is not open, so no need to turn the light on and off. Re: Windows in garage 4Apr 18, 2012 9:20 pm Our plan came with one so we have one. I agree regarding not needing to turn the light on during the day, which I did at our old house in which we kept stuff in the garage. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. Now the house is built (not yet handed over) I have noticed that its not that dark in there, there s a small hi lite above the window which obviously lets just enough light in. Re: Windows in garage 9Apr 19, 2012 8:44 am Definitely having a window when we finally build. Big fan of natural light wherever possible! Mostly for natural light. It doesn't need to be a huge window, just enough to not be completely in the dark. Also, in our new home our cats will be sleeping in part of the garage so ventilation for stinky kitty litter is a must for us! Re: Windows in garage 11Apr 19, 2012 9:43 am We put one in ours. It's the only single glazed window we are having - I've done it for natural light and also to go with the rest of the house. We are putting a frosted in there so people won't see our mess clearly. It won't be openable either. Re: Windows in garage 12Apr 19, 2012 10:36 am Thanks everyone. This has been very useful. I think it is a definite yes to a window in the garage. I don't suppose it is so much of a security risk - I was thinking maybe it is better not to have one to prevent potential robbers being able to see if your cars are in the garage or not (so they know when everyone is out). Does anyone have a window in their external door to the garage (if you have one)? Re: Windows in garage 13Apr 19, 2012 11:34 am We have an external door in the garage - but no window inset into it. Didn't see the point. Re: Windows in garage 14Apr 19, 2012 12:16 pm We don't have a window or an external door in the garage. In hindsight it would have been nice to have a window but that wall gets the hot morning sun so perhaps not. It does get warm in the garage after driving the car in but we open the garage door slightly to allow air through but that will be a bonus in winter. It's also one less window to lock when leaving the house and means we have the whole garage to store things! If we need lots of light we open the garage door ... it hasn't been a problem.
