Browse Forums Building A New House Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2476Apr 13, 2012 8:36 pm Rio15 On the final inspection, the house was in such a poor state- with chipped tiles, no door handles placed on, huge rubbish piles scattered in the garage due to the builders, the heater not being correctly installed, flooding of the shower (with water not going down the drain), and dints/scratched paint on the garage door were just to name a few, in which we had to wait ONE MONTH to have these problems resolved, since the building company had commenced their Christmas break, and were not back 'til late January. A week had passed, and a strange smell was lurking throughout the bedrooms and bathroom area. Outside one of the bedroom window, there is some sort of drain. Out of that drain: sewerage, gunk, and bodily fluids that had ben expelled through the the toilet were all rising out of the drain, in which we had to go to the Plumbing Industry Commission. .....And these problems were just some of the entire list. May I ask who you built with? Did you get all the issues resolved? Rio15 I'm really disappointed with the estate. They (or whoever) just spend the Tax Payer's money on making pretty parks, when in fact we need the basic necessities, with phone and internet being readily available when you move in (Not waiting a whole month. Don't even get me started on the FTTH Box in the garage!), wider roads, adequate weeding, and the urgent need for public transport. My house is already isolated enough, with a inadequate walking distance to the local shops, it just adds fuel to the fire. But that's just my opinion, and opinions are subjective. Just need a place to vent lol. I am not sure why you are disappointed with the estate apart from the FTTH issue. Your house's issue is caused by the builder not really the estate's fault. I don't think the parks were built using tax payer's money, it's from the developer's profits. The council only starts maintaining them after it's handed over to them by VU. In addition, aren't more parks better? I do agree the public transport is also a major issue. But we all know no bus company will want to go though areas with less or little bus users because it won't simply make them any money. I sympathise your situation and I don't intend to upset you, but I just want to set things straight. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2477Apr 13, 2012 9:31 pm Rio15 Hi all, . As for the parks, not sure what you are concerned about. The parks are one of the reasons we chose to build here and with a 3 year old it has been fantastic to have a couple within walking distance. I also think there is nothing nicer than being able to see some greenery. Public transport; I agree that it could be better. In fact a lot better. However we came into it with our eyes open and were well aware that this was the case. I am surprised that you did not do your homework before signing up. Again, not being critical of you and like you said it is an opinion but I guess I am just trying point out some of the positives. Best of luck with everything. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2478Apr 13, 2012 10:22 pm Quote: It seems the lights don't adjust to peak hour traffic and spend almost an equal time letting cars on Lyndarum Drive/Hayston Blvd through as cars on Epping Road. I would hate to see it in the morning peak for people travelling south. Yes, Epping Road travelling southbound in the morning peak is pretty bad at times. I drive my kids to school in Mernda and then to get to work far south of the CBD I travel along Craigieburn Road. If I had to drive southbound into Epping I'd turn right at Harvest Home Road adn then cut through the estate, back up to the Findon Rd roundabout and would avoid Miller St at all costs too. Some good news: Got my first Whittlesea Leader delivered last week. Bad news: Saw that a man was airlifted to the Alfred in a critical condition the other morning driving along Epping Road. That intersection at Craigieburn Road is a death waiting to happen. Rio - sorry to hear about your building woes. We're still fighting our builder on heating issues. All Aurora homes must have at least 5 star rated ducted heating and ours is 3 star. Just one of our whinges. Your problems sound a lot worse though. Hope they get sorted soon. Just re the comment that the developer pays for the parks and not our taxes, well, it is a Vic govt estate so when it boils down to it it is our taxes paying for the parks around here at least. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2479Apr 14, 2012 12:47 am R.E: aurorafrog / Moving2Epping Thank you for your sympathy. It's been 4 months and the problems are still not resolved to an adequate stage, but are getting there. It's not the parks I have a problem with, since I live 5-10 metres away from one (A main contributing factor), plus it's a great stress realiver from work and life, to walk the dog and go out with the family through lush green land, but parks should not be our Number 1, first priority. There are more crucial aspects that need to be more focused on. The Edgars Rd extension is utterly crucial! Main reasons for buying into Aurora was the reassurance of living with 200m (Or 500m?) within a bus stop. Fortunately, I'm only a 1 minute from the local bus stop, or shelter should I say. Too bad there's no bus service. It's ironic- there's commuters standing in the harsh rain, or being scorched by the hot sun along the 575 bus services with no shelter, yet there's empty, fully equipped bus shelters collecting dust in our estate. The internet is a great infrastructure with its high speeds, but we've had two cases in which we've ben without the internet, with the FTTH technician having to come out two days later (after being hassled) to just restart the router - a 20 second job, in which I had to still continue to pay for the internet service, and which someone had to be home, away from work, just to open up the garage door, all because us residents don't have access to the FTTH box. A twenty second task then became a two day situation. Also, Iprimus bartered with us when we attempted to cancel our contract. We now have 200gb, plus unlimited Phone AND mobile, for $89.95 which is great!! Took some time, made a little noise, but had a great outcome. I'm have concern saying the builders name on here, as legal strife may erupt, for tarnishing their business reputation, etc. But I want to give a warning to future residents. Here's a clue: The first syllable coincides with clocks and measure of time. Oztish: Sorry for your problems. If you need them to pull up their socks, just threaten to take them Consumer Affairs or VCAT, hopefully it should work. All the best! It's a great occasion to meet your fellow residents and talk about the FTTH issue (as far as I know, it's been a major topics in the past few coffee chats). In addition, you will have a chance to talk to VU representative face to face. Have a visit to the ACA website and it's forum (http://www.aurora.asn.au) and sign up to their newsletter if you haven't done so. It'll keep you informed and updated for what's happening in Aurora right now. I think some resident are taking FTTH issue up to VCAT.
