Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 12, 2012 2:22 pm As the build gets closer to being finished, we are still undecided if we would use natural grass or artificial turf on our lawn. Hoping to get good advice which one would be better. Mainly because our garden faces north and the fence cast a long shadow in winter so the grass there died, then in summer we put up a shade sail and ..the grass died due to lack of sun. Finally put in fake turf, its been fabulous, however our lawn is in shade all summer long, any patches that are in direct sun are too hot to stand on. Even on a 30 degree day its too hot to stand on. Also DIY installation is really easy. Hope this helps you make your decision. Re: Artificial Lawn grass or Natural 3Apr 12, 2012 2:51 pm hi aries, cant really give much advise, but one thing i know is that when we went looking at some of the display villages over summer, some of the homes had the artificial turf at the front and it was so hot you couldnt walk on it in bare feet and you could feel the heat coming up from it. Re: Artificial Lawn grass or Natural 4Apr 12, 2012 2:52 pm this really is a personal choice because there are pro's and con's for both: Pro's: - Water free, not reticulation maintainence - No lawn mowing Con's - Damage probably requires installation company - probably ages over time Synthetic lawn has come along way in recent years, to a point where it really looks impressive. But if you have kids playing on it all the time, what happens if it folds like a rug ? At that point no matter how good the lawn looks it still looks fake. And the latests stuff hasnt been around long enough to see how it weather's over a long period of time. Not really helpful in making a choice, but some things for you to consider Congratulations on your home almost being finished Re: Artificial Lawn grass or Natural 5Apr 12, 2012 3:55 pm Because I only have a tiny area out the back of my place that's going to need grass, I'm going to just go with artificial grass. If it were a large lawn I'd plant Buffalo or Kikuyu. Yes, I would expect fake grass to need replacing every five years or so.
