I intend to go with timber coz it's cheaper, my question is are there any timber paint that will give me the oily colour effect of Merbau? Is the paint expensive and how many times of coating I need to do for timber? The size of the double gate is about 2m long and 1.95m high. Thanks for your advise! Hi citystop, what timber do you get for $950? Seems a pretty big gap there in the prices. If you do want merbau look, you can try dwd intergrain tinted to merbau. tends to last a bit longer that deck oil especially on a gate where water doesn't sit. It's quoted on raw timber that's used for paling fencing, not sure yet if it's treated pine slats. I should have followed up on this thread.
