How often do you move your bed now? If you're like me you only move the bed when you move house. Answer 2:-No to third light. Do you live in a hot climate? If so maybe put a fan over the bed. Answer 3:-Maybe put a 4 spotlight bar over the island and in the dining/lounge have matching drums or pendants. Answer 4:-Everyone else here is suggesting hard wired lights but they are forever. I think you should stick with your suggestion of batten fix and DIY pendants. If you have kids there are are some great DIY and you can update as they grow. I think there is now a much bigger range of DIY than before. A lot of people won't buy them because they regard them as cheap but I have them as I would rather spend $1,000 on something other than a bloody lightshade.
