Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 11, 2012 8:37 pm Hi, need some advice. We have four in the house and we all use the one bathroom. We like big towels and I am trying to sort out towel rails. I hate small towel rails that you have fold your towels up to get them on and they never dry. I don't really want to waste electricity on heated rails especially seeing as we have gas ducted heating that keeps the bathroom warm. So any suggestions for an aesthetic and functional solution? I have looked at two double rails placed vertically and horizontally. Like these: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Looks fairly average. I love the look of these but they are heated and I wonder how well you go at keeping four towels on it. Re: Non heated towel racks 3Mar 12, 2012 10:40 am I'm not sure why you would need a column of towel rails for a single towel if the rails aren't going to be heated? I thought the ourpose of the colums of close rails is to ensure heat gets to all the length of the towel? Take a look at the Dorf Enix double towel rail 900mm. These are wide, so towels don't need to be folded in half. (probably would still need to fold bath sheets though). If you hang a single towel over both rails, you have better air circulation and the towels dry faster. I am getting one of these for each person in our house. So, for us, two double rails in the ensuite (one for me, one for hubby) and will try to put three of these in the main bathroom (1 for each child and a spare). If needed, you can still hang two towels on the rail and not have to fold a towel in half. So far, this is the widest towel rail I have seen. Have seen a few that were 800mm, which is still big enough for a decent towel (like DriGlo, Sheriden, Actil, etc). 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! We're in the design phase .... Re: Non heated towel racks 4Mar 12, 2012 11:30 am We bought the ends and a middle post and a length which DH cut to the length we wanted (2180mm). We got thingies that mean you don't need a stud behind the plaster - we (he) even put a post where there is a sliding door. So the rail holds a bath mat and 2 towels. We didn't put the middle post in the middle. We got the posts from the better selection of fittings, but their rail wasn't long enough, so we found the lengths of rail at the other end of the shop (Mitre 10). Re: Non heated towel racks 6Mar 13, 2012 9:59 pm We bought two of these today they are 740mm x 1190mm, wide enough to hang our towels without having to fold them in half Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A bank is a place that will lend you money only if you can prove that you don't need it... Re: Non heated towel racks 7Mar 15, 2012 4:27 am It depends on how big/wide your towel bars are? It's very difficult to find anything over 610mm apart from the links suggested above. I guess you can say a stacked or double towel rail is your best bet. Electrical just got back to me and said the most they can provide is a single power point on the Bedroom 1 side of that wall.
