I use a 9W in my desk lamp which provides enough light to see what I am doing but not really bright enough for working or even reading for extended periods. Their 15Ws on the other hand are great! I have a couple side by side with 50W halogens and the LEDs are brighter! I use the warm white version which is somewhere in between halogen yellow and fluoro white - I quite like it. One thing to keep in mind though is that these are a self contained unit (not a globe) which means that when they go they will have to be replaced by an electrician. Hopefully that will be some years from now and there will be better and much cheaper solutions. Re: LED Downlights - how much V & W 8May 31, 2012 11:20 am Lumen output is important. An LED downlight should have an equivalent lumen level as a halogen it's replacing. However, Lux should also be taken into consideration. Lux is lumens/per square meter ie. The light to actually falls on a surface. An LED has very directional focused light, so while it might have a lower Lumen output compared to a halogen, the Lux level might be superior. I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts. Perhaps I'm wording my searches wrong?
