And the same front door Wow, you have seen a Koala?? How special! What a nice place to live. We have kangaroos and possums, rabbits and bandicoots, but no Koalas out our way. The Environmental Surveyor said the soil is too poor for them, even though we do have Tallowood, which are Koala habitat trees. We also have mozzies DS reacts really badly to bites too, so that is the one thing we are NOT looking forward to when we move out there. How are you finding the projector in your media room? We are tossing up between a projector and screen, or the biggest flat screen TV we can find! Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 102Feb 24, 2012 9:51 am I love my projector. We still have our 50 inch plasma in there also and then a motorized screen that comes down. the projector I got is a full HD dlp projector and the pircture is amazing. I love my movies and that room was always my dream. The projector i bought from overseas (similar model in Australia was over $2000.00, I only paid $1000 including extended warranty and shipping from Canada). The screen was under $250 so you dont have to spend a fortune to get the big picture.. Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 103Feb 24, 2012 10:22 am Wow you got a great buy there! I will have to tell DH about it. I think he wanted to get a 65 inch plasma in ours. We definitely still need a TV in there is we get a projector, for watching Bathurst in comfort and style Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 105Feb 24, 2012 1:08 pm Mclaren, thank you. We had to buy a few pieces of furniture, but it wasnt too bed as 2 sets of sofas where from the old house. The sloping shoe shelves where a life saver as it covered the bit that stuck out, where the aircon is going thru. phew, happy with it. And my side is bigger than my hubbys... he he Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 107Mar 04, 2012 10:23 am Hi Tan, have loved reading your entries. I am at the end of a new build and have been looking at purchasing from "Light in a Box' too. Could you tell me what was involved in swapping to the LED driver and bulbs? Did you have to pay the electrician heaps? Sorry have no experience with lighting but do know that for the same reason as you I want LEDs over the stairs. Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 108Mar 04, 2012 10:45 am Hello Bankgirl, Yeah Light in a box have some wondeful light fittings, dont they... and they are so much cheaper. Basically our light came with standard halogen bulbs and a transformer to suit those lightbulbs according to their wattage. I decided to go LED since our light is above our staircase and its too hard to reach to replace any bulbs. I basically bought the LED tranformer here in Australia (wanted to make sure its safe and to Australian Standards) and bought the LED bulbs from a light shop nearby. I did have my electritian test everything before it went up, because I wanted to make sure its all safe and working. He ended up hanging the chandelier (with help of my hubby) for us. It was a bit tricky, but worth it. The trasnformer was around $50.00 i think and the LED's around $12.50 each. Not cheap, but I just didnt want to risk leaving the halogens in there, because they can last from either 2 weeks to 2 years! With the LEDs I will hopefully never have to replace them and they are so economical to run and dont get hot. For an electritian to change the transformer over it is a 2 minute job, so no problem. I guess you just have to find out how much it would cost you to hang your light fitting. It still cost us a bit, but as I mentioned it before, If I would have done this thru an Australian light shop, a similar light would have cost 3 times as much. Which light fitting are you looking at? Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 109Mar 04, 2012 3:37 pm Thanks Tan, I am looking at a couple of fittings all of which are for our entry void. Ours is a double story void with each floor having 2.8 ceilings so quite high. Looking for something glamourous that gives plenty of light. Problem I have encountered is that we opted to leave the black wrought iron railings on the stair case to cut down on the variations cost. In hindsight should have gone s/s however what is done is done. I am concerned over mixing metals ie chrome with the black wrought iron so having trouble choosing a light. I have not found (in Australia) a black wrought iron fitting that does not look old fashioned or colonial. Hence I found Light in the Box. Like yourselves we have a small builder doing our construction and not a large national firm so we have had plenty of freedom of choice. Installation of light fittings is included in the contract price so I am keen to get them done now. Our house is not unlike yours, you have great taste! BTW the house is at Graceville. We were severely flood damaged in 'the' floods so we demolished the Qlder and built something modern. Miss the old house though. Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 110Mar 05, 2012 7:09 am I suppose black wrought iron doesnt have that modern edge... Our choice was just the simple aluminium rods in black or ss look. We would have loved glass, but as you say only would have added to the variations so we just kept the ss. I am sure you will find some lights. The LED globes by the way are superbright really. I would go for the warm white light. Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 111Mar 21, 2012 1:58 pm Just a little update on an issue I had with the timber floor, which accidentally got scratched by tradies before we moved in. Our builder has been fantastic and we had around 13 floor boards replaced to get rid of the scratch. Mind you, it was not an easy project and the floor man had to rip up all the floor from one side to work his way towards the scratched area, replace the boards and work his way back again. Very happy that our builder sorted this out for us... Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 112Mar 21, 2012 2:00 pm Three cheers for your builder! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 113May 16, 2012 9:40 pm Tan39 have to say totally in love with your floors and that swimming pool!!!! The set back walls in your front hall way and for the TV, roughly how much extra did that cost you? Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 114May 17, 2012 6:13 am Thanks Ricaaa, all the niches didnt cost us any extra as we got an all in price from our builder. They add class to any home straight away. We built with a small builder and told him our budget and what we wanted and we askewd him if he could built this house for us and he said yes. We went over by about $11000.00 in variations which was mostly electical ugrades, timber floors. so not too bad. Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 115Mar 27, 2013 6:16 pm just looked through your thread and what a beautiful congrats Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 116Mar 27, 2013 7:49 pm Tan39 we're also building in QLD. May I ask who did your WIR fitouts and were you happy with them? Did you get them done after handover? Did they do other cupboards in the house too or just the walkin? Cheers! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 117Mar 28, 2013 6:19 am Hi EmyN, our wir was done by just wardrobes. We were very happy with the result. They came and measured, solved an eye sore with the perfect storage solution. Installation was, professional, took half day. We only had to get our wir done. Our builder did our cupboards. We found the price from just wardrobes reasonable also. Good luckmwirhnyour build. Re: It's ours! lots of pics! Building at Coomera Waters QLd 118Mar 28, 2013 1:25 pm Thanks so much for the reply.
