Don't let it go, keep at them to ensure its fixed. NO EXPECTATIONS, NO DISAPPOINTMENTS! There is your answer on what needs to be done Re: Steel lintel not needed above rear door of garage? 5Jan 23, 2012 8:18 pm Argh @#$%^, I don't think ours has got a lintel either. If anybody knows of a relevant reg or standard I'd appreciate it. Why they say being an owner-builder is a bad idea I dunno, you end up having to learn everything about building anyway so you can supervise the person you're paying for his knowledge and expertise! Re: Steel lintel not needed above rear door of garage? 9Jan 23, 2012 9:46 pm We have a rear (standard door width) metal frame without a lintel. Both brick veneer houses I have lived in have been done the same way. The metal frame is thick and appears to have a recess exactly the width of a brick. I quickly checked and it looks like its filled with mortar with the brick work starting slightly below the top of the door frame. Brick veneer is non-structural (ie. only a skin) and I would be surprised if for a small door opening a steel frame of adequate construction wasn't OK to support afew brick layers. There maybe differences if the bricks are holding up the roof for instance. One phone call to Stratco or someone similar might put your mind at ease while the SS is looking into it! Never let these things go however and your right to push the issue. Re: Steel lintel not needed above rear door of garage? 13Jan 24, 2012 9:51 am B STAR usually 820mm doors are done without lintels if using a steel frame, anything bigger will require a lintel. Is this going by regulation/Australian Standards? I met with the SS today and he said he is waiting for the engineer to inspect to see if a lintel is required over the rear garage door. I can't see why it wouldn't be needed but will wait to hear back. Re: Steel lintel not needed above rear door of garage? 15Mar 13, 2012 2:29 am I try to to put lintels above doors each and every time, if possible, in order to avoid complications that may follow.
