They have the whole backyard to wander around and eat whatever they want except what's in my 4 vegie beds so there is lots of variety out there, plus I give them seeds too and food scraps 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Off to buy more seedlings this afternoon. I went to get them this morning but they barely had any and said they had a delivery coming today 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: My vegie garden and backyard 258Dec 31, 2011 10:03 pm miss_petepie hahah what a cute story on the egg. fingers crossed they take bessies lead and stay producing always love reading this thread and looking at the pics. very inspiring Thanks Miss Petepie - I love sharing with my H1 friends Yesterday there was no egg but today I got two eggs! One this morning and one later in the day which I didn't find till about 7:30pm - both different sizes. This morning my chooks were making a huge noise before I let them out and then 20 mins later when I went to water the garden I found an egg on the pathway. Tonight when I again went to water, due to the heat, I found another one on the pathway. I think they are both from the same chook, Bessie, as the one this morning and the one this evening was in the same place as the first one two days ago. She tried to lay one yesterday, she was nesting in the laying box for over an hour and nothing happened, so I'm thinking she's 'made up for it' today. I hope the other 2 chooks lay in the laying box and not on the pathway! Although interestingly she scratches around in the straw in the laying box but then lays it somewhere else! Weird. I ask because each hen will have her own regular tint to her egg I believe-that's one way you can tell if there's soemthing wrong with them..shell irregularities! Our three Isa's lay mid brown eggs, whereas Millie (the Wyandotte) lays a light coloured egg-when she's not moulting...she currently resembles a feather duster! Btw if a chook lays an egg after I've gone to work and it's a hot day and the eggs been in the sun all day then I spose I probably shouldn't eat it ??
