Just keep the soil underneath moist not wet, stick your finger into the turf and it should be damp if its not water it. Watering could be no times a day to 6 times a day. Dont worry about the 35 degrees it will be fine, you can top dress if you like, wont improve the colour, but that doesnt matter as it will green naturally in the next 2-4 weeks once its rooted down. So my advice (for what its worth ) leave it and water as needed. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 3Dec 10, 2011 3:47 pm It will be fine. Those conditions won't kill it. Just keep it watered. It is really important to understand that just because you see turf drying or going brown does not in any way shape or form mean that it is dead. I often have folks who say their lawn is dead, its no where near it. We can bring them back with in weeks. Avaoid fertilisers. It will be a big temptation. Stick with water. Seasol, molasses every week or two for a while then far less often after that. Don't do anything more than that and what ever it ends up looking like it will come back green and healthy. Oh and thanks for choosing to have a living breathing organism growing in your landscape rather than a plastic chemical based one that adds to home energy costs. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 4Dec 10, 2011 7:34 pm I managed to top dress the backyard this morning...which meant me leaving lots of depressions in the turf where i stood. however, we copped a pretty thick thunderstorm and rain mid afternoon and it seems like most of the top dressing has either washed into the turf and gaps/joins...or pooled in the depressions...either way, it's actually looking pretty good. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 5Dec 10, 2011 7:41 pm Don't forget that gardening is an ongoing project with a living organism - if it's not all level and smoothed out now you can fix that with time and top dressing so don't panic 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' The uneven-ness I can sort out down the track with better top dressing....trying to smooth out all the footprints I left behind is what was bugging me. But the rain and sand washed into those over the last few hours seems to have sorted that to some degree. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 7Dec 11, 2011 8:13 pm I just hope you followed some of the future proof, permanent soil preparation we have as a mantra here at Homeone. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 8Dec 13, 2011 3:44 pm I laid mine on a hot day as well in September. It went brownish and i had a mild panic. But now its green as anything and wont stop bloody growing because of all the rain we've had in NSW. I put some spare rolls elsewhere and theyre still brown. Im not fussed as i know the roots have taken hold and its just being tempremental. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 11Dec 15, 2011 2:20 pm OK. I just purchased a 2L bottle of the Seasol for lawns (Seasol+powerfeed) and a couple of bottles of the concentrate for refills. I'm going to start once a day waters (for the next couple of days though...this may be twice a day since the temp will be around 30). Should I: SS/PF before or after watering? I'm planning on doing it at the end of the day when I get home...however, the lawn would have gone almost an entire day without being watered. Cheers Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 12Dec 15, 2011 3:06 pm Seasol powerfeed etc once a week for 4 weeks not every day or every water. Then scale back to once every 2 weeks then after a month of that once a month. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 13Dec 15, 2011 3:08 pm Seasol first, then water the lawn afterwards to help the seasol etc penerate the soil. Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 14Dec 16, 2011 1:48 pm You guys are missing a fair bit here. Molasses is what you need to be finding. Oh and what you guys call dead will be no where near it in the plant world Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 15Dec 16, 2011 3:39 pm I did 4L of Seasol/Powerfeed over 150m2 (where the bottle says 2L will do 100m2). But that was my first application...I'll do another next week. Should I mix some molasses in with the next SS/PF mixture you think? Cheers Edit: In a 2L container...I refilled it with 1L of Powerfeed and 400ml of SS...the rest with water (well...that's what it advised me on the back of the SS/PF 2L bottle.) Oh and what you guys call dead will be no where near it in the plant world Yep totally agree. Everyone whinged that my grass was brown so it's dead. Umm the action is underneath guys...!!! My little steppables I planted, that got munched by snails, have come back to life. I was told to throw them away... Hmmm ok... Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 17Dec 17, 2011 8:53 am I'm just looking for ways to give the turf the absolute best possible start. I've got 8 days or so before xmas day...to which we'll have a handful of family and kids over at our house for lunch. By that time...the turf would have been down for about 2.5 weeks. I guess the turf could tolerate a couple of hours of foot traffic from mostly kids (adults know not to walk on it). However....I'm hoping the ankle-biters will keep themselves entertained on the big playset im putting together in a 6x6 play area....and keep off the grass Cheers Re: Just laid turf...on a 35 degree day! 18Dec 17, 2011 11:53 am All you need to do is read the two lawn threads we have dedicated a great many hours compiling using the absolute best info and advice.
