Having been through a few displays, I like the look of the Dennis Family "Brookdale". I would be interested in hearing some opinions of the builder and/or design. cheers. Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 3Apr 30, 2007 10:49 pm Forget the last question.....doesnt really matter after looking at them.
I personally am not a fan of the "side" entrance and the walking straight into your family area thing. Call me old fashioned but I like a small entrance area, somewhere to take your shoes off etc. What sort of $$$ do they want for the basic design? What have you compared it to? Have you looked at the Porter Davis, M3tricon, Henley ranges??? Matt Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 4May 01, 2007 8:23 am Hi Matt,
With the side entrance, I have a corner block, so it would allow entry from either street...was thinking of putting a path on both sides. I've been through pretty much everyones website trying to find a house that will fit on my block, with the garage on the dead side (not many choices out there, and cut'n'pasting the front of the house to suit seems to wreck the flow). One thing I do like about the Brookdale is the master bedroom is at the back of the house. Their base prices range from $138k to $153k. I've also looked at PD, M3tricon and Orbit displays... cheers, Tipsy Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 5May 01, 2007 9:37 am Tipsy,
I am with you on the rear Master Bedroom.... I love the idea especially if you are on a corner block. The house seems good value for money. Have you been through a display of this home? Matt Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 6May 01, 2007 11:35 am Can't vouch for the quality or otherwise of their homes, however quite a few of them are being built in a new estate near me (Leopold, out of Geelong, Vic.)
In particular, two display homes are at the frame stage - and are listed for sale. If would be a good opportunity to see one being built (if you can be bothered driving there!). http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=103937236&f=10&p=10&t=res&ty=&fmt=&header=&c=86243910&s=vic&tm=1177983146 http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=103937243&f=10&p=10&t=res&ty=&fmt=&header=&c=86243910&s=vic&tm=1177983146 Cheers Perry Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 7May 04, 2007 11:59 am We am currently building the Hartley 33 with Dennis Homes and are very happy with them. They are working to schedule and their quality of work is very good.
Good luck deciding who to build with, there are so many choices out there Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 8May 04, 2007 2:24 pm Matt: I've been through 2 displays of the Brookdale 200 (one furnished and one unfurnished). When unfurnished, the meals/family area looks huge and open, however adding the lounge and table makes it more cozy. My only thought was using of some sort of partitioning/ shelf system might segregate the areas a bit better, also providing more storage space...
The fit-out appears basic but sturdy, nothing lavish but the clean lines give the impression it would withstand the day-to-day rigors of living. The kitchen was finished quite well, with none of the cupboard doors rubbing (like another builders display I was in earlier... that one looked like the apprentice was given a kit to build). Perry: Thanks for the idea... I'm in Werribee, so not too far away. Carolann: Glad to hear you are happy with them...they are certainly the front runner in my mind at the moment. Any others 9May 05, 2007 12:50 pm Hi Carolann
Were there any other builders you might have used if not Dennis? I see they are in NSW and VIC and have both been added to BB now should you wish to comment and rate them. Best regards Re: Dennis Family Homes - Melbourne 10May 07, 2007 7:45 pm Hi BestBuilder,
We had a look around at so many display homes and we did like a few with Henley and Porter Davis. Our problem was our land is on a slope and that put a few builders off. Plus we weren't happy with the sales people at Henley as we found them very inflexible and not very friendly. And I think we have heard so many bad stories about Metricon that we were put off them almost from the start. Many faces 11May 25, 2007 10:11 am Hi carolann
I think this is part of the problem with builders - where the sales people can really make an initial impression (be it good or bad) but that may not be a true relflection of the rest of the process. In that you then have to deal with many other people who may be better or worse than the sales person in terms of actually building the house. I guess the best judge of a builder is the end-to-end process, in that you might put up with a difficult salesperson for a while, if the rest of the process is brilliant. We Are at fix out stage. so we are nearly there Hi everyone, Newbie renovator here, after some advice for combining our family room in the picture and the alfresco and make a larger family room. There is a flush sill… 0 4899 May I ask why you chose not to use GJ Gardiner? I'm actually meeting with one of the sales guys tomorrow for an appointment. Definitely not signing anything yet… 3 13259 I haven’t. But have a Lowe Design home. Not only did I find Matt Lowe patronising and a bully, but the home is NOT TO CODE. I have water coming through the bricks… 1 14404 |
