Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 08, 2011 11:01 am Hi All, Builder wants to know if we would like the mirrors to start at the top of the vanity or if we would like a row of tiles to separate the vanity from the mirror. Has anyone got their mirrors sitting right on top of the vanity? Our only concern is that splash from the sink with put spots all over the lower section of the mirrors and it will be a pain to keep clean. Where as the tiles would act as a small splashback and you wouldn't notice it so much. What do you all think? Re: Mirror Above Vanity in Ensuite and Bathroom?? 3Dec 08, 2011 11:11 am All my bathrooms have the mirror sitting on the vanity. For me, I'd rather 'see' the mess than have it consealed by tiles, and tiles require grout which can stain with water/soap, whereas a mirror is just glass and easy to keep clean. I have heard that you do need to be careful if the mirror is sitting in 'water', as it can seap up behind the mirror and damage the silver. As long as you keep it mostly splash free behind the basin and make sure the join is well siliconed, then I don't really see an issue with it! I guess it would depend on what 'look' you prefer! As Stormy has said you would need to be careful of water pooling at the bottom of the mirror as it does damage it. Stormy also raises a good point in terms of cleaning the tiles - in fact come to think about it the mirror is much easier to clean the the row of tiles and grout. If I had my time again... It's perfect - looks great, no worries about pooling water damaging the mirror and less splash stains to worry about.
