I'm goin back on the third to save a week of annual leave so I have enough leave to have a few weeks off when we move to settle in and get the other works done that we need My building forum: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49650&p=756654#p756654 Building the 'Ultimate St Marks' with Home Buyers Centre Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 132Dec 02, 2011 9:22 pm sdmould Haha venturai! I may only get two days off at Christmas time (or three if you count New Years day), but at least my annual leave is untouched. Which is good, because I imagine I'm going to need at least a week to do the move and clean up this god forsaken rental property. Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 133Dec 02, 2011 11:09 pm Venturai Damn, do they have any vacancies? I'd love that. Where I work you get the public holidays off and that's it. Much like last year, Christmas is just a 4-day weekend for me. You get public holidays off? Hot dang, got any vacancies? Where I work I don't even get christmas OR new years off! I think it's best for companies to just shut down over chrissy. Everyone here asks for annual leave but only so many can take it so it ends in arguments over whose family is more important. I believe the issue with giving you a key is their liability. It's a construction site that is full of hidden dangers that you really need to be inducted for. If you trip, fall, cut yourself they can end up paying the bill. Also, they have what is called a builders key. It's not the same as the key you will be handed on completion. My understanding is it will open pretty much any lock that is built with the same mob until the real key is used which drops another pin in the lock. I don't mind it so much, I've had one Christmas off in 8 years with the same company, but the only thing that bothers me is when it always seems to be the same people doing it. meatbag I believe the issue with giving you a key is their liability. Yeah I can understand some of the reasons, but in reality (at least with Homebuyers), it's less about ensuring our safety and more about them having that final payment before we're allowed free access. Much like most things these days, it comes down to money. Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 135Dec 12, 2011 5:47 pm The reason they can't let someone have a key is because there are two different types of keys a builder has - a display key where one key opens every single display home, and a construction key where one key opens every single home under construction. It sucks being locked out of your own home but for security reasons, they can't give you a key because you could then go into any other HBC home.. Also if you got one, I'd want one then someone else would want one etc so then what would be the point of the home even being locked up? And if you visit and leave the house unlocked and something gets knicked they cant cover their a** .... UPDATE TIME! Went last Wed and luckily my site supervisor was on site so had a chat to him! I wasn't happy because I was told ceilings were starting on Tues and would be going until the 14th.. He promised he'd make it up.. Well visited yesterday and all the ceilings are finished!!! And the render has been done.. PICS below! While progress will hit a brick wall this time of year (no pun intended), you're about two weeks of work away from being at lock up. All they really have to do is plaster the walls, then get the windows and doors in. Make the most of being able to walk through, because very soon for a month or so, you're not going to be able to! I'd estimate your pre-handover inspection to be at late Jan/early Feb, at the rate you're going. It's a drop in the ocean, when you think about it. Neither of us really have very long to go, and we're going to be living in our own homes Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 137Dec 16, 2011 11:17 am Looking great there! Just moved into mine and the feeling is one of absolute delight (but craziness at the same time trying to organise stuff!). Hope you have a very merry Christmas! Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 138Dec 21, 2011 3:30 am It all looks VERY familiar I noticed they did the same to yours as they did mine. A cornice between the entrance and the main living / kitchen / dining room. It bugs me now, mostly because it just looks out of place! Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 139Dec 23, 2011 8:45 am Hi all, Just thought I'd jump in here! That cornice issue is an interesting one! Can anyone explain why builders might do that? Is it "cutting corners"? Or is there some kind of join there that's a bit unusual and needs to be hidden? Seems a bit odd really..... And is there in point in the building process where the owner might have a say in this? Good pick up meatbag.... Guess I'd better get up and get ready for work..... Pre-work Christmas breakfast this morning. Yay.... Re: Building with Home Buyers Centre in Pearsall WA :) 140Jan 04, 2012 1:27 pm Hi everyone!!! I can't believe its been a few weeks since I wrote on here - actually I can't believe I missed telling you all that we reached lock up on the 20th of Dec! Hope you all had an amazing Christmas and start to the New Year! They are still saying mid Feb for PCI so moving at end of Feb - as long as it isn't longer than this then I don't care Horrible not being able to get into your own home haha... Going to visit later today, they ran out of time to do cabinetry last year so hoping they are back at site and onto it already! Any progress from anyone? Good point about the cornice meaty - didn't really notice it to be honest but I was in and out very quickly. Im sure it probs will bug me when we move in.. I am starting to think we should have had like a 26 course high opening or something rather than what we have.. Ah wells. If we hate it that much when we move in we'll just change it How was your first Chrissy in the new house? And snagz how was your first Chrissy in your home? Hope it was wonderful!
