We get free mulch from the land clearing so I'm guessing because it's local trees and we saw it all getting mulched a few months ago as they cut down the trees that it's good mulch. The shipped a lot out but leave some for us too. The pile is getting smaller and smaller recently so I'm topping up our garden now too. I pulled out the snow peas and popped them n the compost bin and relocated my inground worm farm to a new shady spot within the veggie garden and then picked what felt like a zillion tomatoes. A large bowl of grape tomatoes then got roasted with beef for dinner. Picked heaps of butter beans but they didn't make it to the dinner table as. Ate them while cleaning up The carrots I pulled out don't make it to the dinner table either. I ate them too quickly. Perhaps through the week I'll serve them for dinner. So what have you done in your garden today? 407Nov 27, 2011 8:40 pm You can be assured that the mulch you have used is the best you can get. The only way it could be better is if you got it down when it was fresher. I think I Internet love you. Found a gorgeous plant at the nursery-Alpine Mint Bush and planted it too. I am starting to really love my garden. Re: So what have you done in your garden today? 413Jan 02, 2012 7:52 pm I trimmed back all the dead flowers from my kangaroo paw. They look health again even though there are few flowers now. Then noticed the gardenias had lots of new growth. I had them in pots and they just kept getting yellowing leaves, even though I followed the advice for gardenias in pots. In the ground they seem to be happy. I've now got some Murraya's in the pots but haven't taken them out of their plastic pots for the last 3 weeks. Just sunk them into the big pots to see if they like the spot first. Followed it all up with some seasol and molasses. I need to move a bunch of native violet that is growing gangbusters through my herb fairy garden. I'm waiting for a weather prediction of several days of rain though. The native violets were little scraps from white polystyrene boxes when I dug up the herbs from the garden in the house we sold a few years ago. I didn't even really know there were wild violets left in the boxes, but they have taken over next to my parsley, chamomile and rosemary. The parsley and chamomile seems to be just growing from seeding itself though. Re: So what have you done in your garden today? 414Jan 02, 2012 8:33 pm ^^^ It was 43c here today-so very little other than picking our first crop of apricots and putting the sprinkler on the chooks to cool them down! Re: So what have you done in your garden today? 419Jan 04, 2012 2:20 pm that looks great! whats involved in doing that? Harrisdale backyard finally done! Re: So what have you done in your garden today? 420Jan 05, 2012 9:01 pm Thank you! It was all too easy, thankfully. We are thrilled with the result! We found a pot/bowl we liked and size that suited, plugged the drainage hole with a wine cork and silicon, painted the interior with four coats of Crommelin Pond Sealer, levelled the pot, filled with water and visited our local aquatic plant supplier for gold fish and plants. Easy-peasy! The plants we chose are: Amazon Queen, Dwarf Papyrus, Apricot Waterlily, a flat leafed twig rush and a couple of bunches of Elodea (to help oxygenate the water for the fish, who'll eat the mozzie lavae, some algae and fish food flakes). We'll have to keep an eye on algae levels and may adjust the quantity of plants and fish accordingly, possibly doing partial water changes just like you do for a fish aquarium. Today our first waterlily flower appeared! It closes at night and throughout the day the colour deepens. So cool.
