I for one would like some privacy from anyone who can be at the front door. So unless you have a camera with a screen in the kitchen and no visibility into the house, I'd go for translucent. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: front entry door glazing? yes or no? 11Jul 07, 2008 8:18 pm I agree with Casa, style preferences aside, I would always go for some form of obscure or translucent glass on both front door and side light.
Especially if you don't have a screen door in front of the solid front door. Have seen houses here where the sidelight is clear and you can see into house at night when interior lights on, or they put some sort of curtain or blind on the sidelight. Re: front entry door glazing? yes or no? 12Jul 07, 2008 9:22 pm You could try asking the person who posted this query. Looks like they have these kinds of front doors.
http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?p=80048#80048 In fact they've now replied so here is what was said. TJ175 Hi kexkez The front doors have frosted glass or you can call it translucent. The glass above the door is clear. We asked for the frosted glass as we didn't like the idea of people being able to see us "moving around" when they're knocking at door. It's more privacy issue, therefore, why we left the top glass clear. At night, when you have the lights on, you can see 'shadow' if you're near the door but not from afar. We have 2 neighbours who opted for the clear. We can see everything or their movement, you can say that. One of them had to buy the sunscreen blind to maintain privacy, which I personally think it's tacky (and so does she but she didn't think of this when she was with Consultant) The other one, has double entry doors, like ours and trust me, at night - it's as good as not having a door. Having said that, to each its own though Re: front entry door glazing? yes or no? 14Jul 07, 2008 10:49 pm i quite liked a couple of the glasses but in the end DH opted for crystal leaf for our back door which has a large glass pane in it. We will eventually replace some of our flush panel internal doors with ones with glass inserts possibly with leadlighting and at that stage the back door ( laundry door) will get the same treatment. We almost went for the desert sand glass that was just displayed but I couldn't imagine it in a front door. The other style that we liked was reed.
This is our door on the left though it will be a deep blue not green. http://bp1.blogger.com/_K6fYFPGijK0/SHIUksIDzrI/AAAAAAAAACE/osGj4rZcNOQ/s1600-h/backdoor.jpg I am most envious of your beautiful front door choice. I would love to have had some glass panels in our front door or some side lights with the option later of having them replaced with leadlight but DH was really not to be convinced about having glass at the front. He likes his privacy. I was really stunned he was happy enough to have the laundry door with a glass panel. I was expecting to have a small window in the room instead. ( I didn't want a sliding, external door in the laundry) Blog http://wherethehearthis.blogspot.com/ Build https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6634: Yard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27687&p=378401#p378401 Re: front entry door glazing? yes or no? 15Jul 07, 2008 11:11 pm If your doors are facing the street, then i'd go the translucent glass. Saying that though, we've gone clear, but there is no way near as much glass as the door you've selected, and our door does not face directly towards the street.
I'm sure anyone who gets sick of the clear glass in their doors, that they can get an adhesive film to change the look and make it look like its translucent or stained and the like? But not sure where you get it from.... I think the 5 light double doors with translucent glass will look lovely. I agree the translucent not the clear for privacy reasons Re: front entry door glazing? yes or no? 17Jul 08, 2008 8:42 am joles . The one you like is too fussy TDL. sorry. Hey is this fussy enough for you then, Jo??? Its ok, I know not everyone into these types of doors but I am a sucker for 'fussy' leadlighting I would of even had it on the sidelight but width of entry wasn't wide enough, the panels only come in certain widths Re: front entry door glazing? yes or no? 18Jul 08, 2008 9:31 am I am actually having the same door with translucent as well, for privacy reason...
