My other option was to get a bracket that put the tv sort of forward off the wall a bit and keeping the powerpoint behind it. My karma ran over your dogma Re: Wall mounts, electricals and all that jazz! 4Apr 27, 2009 12:42 pm Sorry to bump this thread up again! I am also at my electrical stage and was thinking of wall mounting 2 of our tvs. I always thought that we needed to put the powerpoint/tv point behind the tv so that no wires are visible. However, lucky that I read this thread because now I know that if you put it behind the tv, it gets too hot. I dont quite understand what Rodda was trying to say, and the picture he posted does not work anymore. Can Rodda or anyone else elaborate on this?! Sorry for my ignorance! Thanks. I think what Rodda was saying is that you can run your power and other cables up through the walls between the studs. The cables will enter from behind where the TV is to be mounted (through a hole in the plasterboard), down b/w the studs (hole thru the noggin) and down towards the floor. The cables will come out of the wall (another potential hole in plasterboard). Or save yourself some aggro, and get some calbe tray/conduit installed in the wall after the sparkie has "roughed in" and before the plasterboard goes up. Hope this helps (and hope this is what Rodda was saying - or I've misconstrued it) Re: Wall mounts, electricals and all that jazz! 6Jun 07, 2009 7:33 pm Hi was just reading your posts and was wondering, when mounting the TV on the wall with the power point directly behind it what gets "hot". The TV, the cables, the power point, i don't quite understand. Are you saying we shouldn't mount the TV on the wall or put the power point somewhere else. thanks Re: Wall mounts, electricals and all that jazz! 7Sep 08, 2009 11:11 am I am having the same issues. I organised for the PP behind the TV (sorta below it actually, between where the mount will be and the bottom of the TV). I like the idea of running the power through the wall cavity from the TV and popping it out at the bottom but didnt think this was allowed for DIYers?? Isnt this against some code or something about concealed 240V power leads? Same as people running extension leads in wall cavitys? I thought all this stuff was a big no no? If its OK I will be moving that PP somewhere else me thinks.. Re: Wall mounts, electricals and all that jazz! 8Sep 08, 2009 3:01 pm Illegal for DIY regradless.. as for the type of cable.. if you are getting a sparky into do everyting else jsut get them to mount a power point in the area behind where te TV will be going along with an outlet/wall plate for any other cables...
