We chose mushroom and brown based colours first and then re-selected everything to the grey options. Even our kitchen changed from cafe cream and mountain pepper (Polytech) to black and silver (Amerind) I think the greys are cooler than browns. Both are nice and it depends on the rest of your furniture and what you like the look of. Good luck... Re: Don't know if we're going Greys or Creams/Browns! 5Jul 07, 2008 8:29 am Another grey fan here! If you're going for grey, make sure you gather all your samples together to see if they're from the same family of greys, as they can go towards either green, blue or brown (or be true grey, as I call them, as in charcoal).
If you saw the paint you liked in real life, I'd say go for it even though on your screen it might look pink, it's what you saw on a wall that counts, isn't it? (Michelle??). I think grey is a really powerful, but calm colour, but of course it's not what everyone likes. Re: Don't know if we're going Greys or Creams/Browns! 8Jul 07, 2008 12:26 pm I have the platinum micro for my kitchen bench instead of the bathroom, and the formica asphalt was our first choice for kitchen cupboards, but then we chose formica iron ore (because the kitchen was such a big area, I thought we should go a little lighter)
We were also drawn to greys, even though all the display homes we had seen were brown tones. I was concerned about having a house that was too 'cold' so I chose warmer grey/brown tones. Thank you so much for your advice!! We do really like the grey but I suppose because it's so different from our original thoughts I was getting really worried! I just don't want it to look like someone threw up in the house Matrix and DeeElle, your colours are looking great, thank you both for the inspiration! Mek, great idea about bringing all the greys together. I will do and have a look. Thank you again everyone. Building our first home - how scary!!! Re: Don't know if we're going Greys or Creams/Browns! 10Jul 08, 2008 5:50 pm B……I really like your selections, I think you have done a great job!!!
They look clean and crisp. As for the carpet I would lean to light Mocha…..I know that floor tile you are using, and if I’m right, it has a hint of brown in it? Mocha carpet will match nicely. As for your walls, I also needed a grey based paint, without it looking grey! I chose Dulux “Winnow” I call it a dirty white, looks great with my grey tiles and laminate. You can get Winnow mixed in any brand of paint. This is my wall colour….its a warm white! (Michelle??). I advise anyone NOT to choose ANY colours from what you see on the net!!!! My computer is set up so I see perfect colour, but it has to be, my computer at work is shocking….(my other job!) Looking at colours on that computer screen is woeful! Do yourself a favour, get sample pots of all colours you like and view them painted up on boards. 2 coats, internal colours look under good lighting inside, external colours look at in different times of the day outside! Thank you for your advice. I will definately agree with you regarding colours on your computer screen! The Loam White looked pink on here, and YELLOW on the colour fan. Very different, and I should have known that, being in photography colour is very important and varies a lot even with a calibrated screen. Again, thank you everyone. We went to our colour selection appointment yesterday and I'm pretty happy. The carpet is still something I feel we should change, but we have a while yet before that needs to be done as we are doing it ourselves. Building our first home - how scary!!! Re: Don't know if we're going Greys or Creams/Browns! 13Jul 17, 2008 6:16 pm hi michelle, i like the idea of a warm white with a great tinge through it so i have been checking out dulux winnow and the pics you posted of your walls. just wondering if you would mind also sharing what colour you did then paint your skirts/arks? not that i just want to copy the designer of the forum or anything?!! just curious!
