That's an interesting point. Did Coral charge any extra for that truss work? We'll be getting a Colorbond roof on the new house, and that probably allows the builder to down spec the capacity of the roof support because of the reduced weight of the Colorbond. Of course, we wouldn't get a credit from that if they did it. I'm wondering if they'll try a double whammy and throw in a charge to engineer the roof truss to make it stronger for an A/C unit not being purchased through them. My Build Thread: Coral Homes Noosa 279 Price of Actron vs Daikin A/C option 8Oct 22, 2011 10:52 pm No extra charge in my tender letter, but they were aware we were going to put it in right from the start so it could have just been factored into the modifications of the frame elsewhere. If we didn't mention it and were going to do it after there is no way the unit would have fit in the ceiling as we've got alot of trusses etc (cyclone ratings), which doesn't leave alot of room up there. --------------------- Sent from my mobile device so please excuse my typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Price of Actron vs Daikin A/C option 9Nov 03, 2011 8:02 pm GO THE DAIKIN! There is a reason they are the best AC on the market today. I've seen alot of cheaper AC's on the market that look and feel cheap, especially when installing them..... the fans, bearings and internal copper pipe are all made to a price and NOT a standard! You may save money in the short term, but the first stinking hot day when your cheap AC fails, you'll wish you went Daikin. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be upset if I woke up and found a Daikin A/C installed at my place. By all reports they're a quality unit. But so are the Actron - yes? Especially on a hot Aussie day in the western suburbs. As for money, this isn't a cost cutting exercise for us. I wouldn't be surprised if a similarly spec'd Actron ESP+ cost a little more than the Daikin - but we're expecting it to come in much the same. Sounds like you see a lot of A/C installs. Is what you say about fans, bearings and pipes applicable to them? Thanks My Build Thread: Coral Homes Noosa 279 Re: Price of Actron vs Daikin A/C option 11Nov 04, 2011 3:30 pm Amongst other things the ActronAir ESP+ has a variable indoor fan that can wind down to supply air to just one room! Thanks Unfortunatly i've installed wayyyy to many AC's I like Actrons, i think they are a great AC, but i always swing towards Daikin. Most Actrons i've done are for commercial or industry. Only a few are residential. All Actrons i've installed always work well and i can't fault them, but there is something about Japanese technology when it comes to reliablity and functionality. For my house it's Daikin or nothing. . Fridgy Amongst other things the ActronAir ESP+ has a variable indoor fan that can wind down to supply air to just one room! Daikin cant do that! Oh and save up to 61% in running cost at the same time. I'm not 100% about that... i belive Dakin can, but i'll have to check, but to be honest who buys a Ducted AC system to cool just one room? And IMO running cost's come down to smart construction, design and insulation. Fridgy ActronAir is also Australian made too! And let me put it this way.... Which would you prefer??? Me We don't need the air con running all year, but I work from home doing Remedial Massage, therefore need the room at an even temp all year round. Not fussed on the look of splits, plus we had hot/cold spots when we had a split last time and this was all that Daiken could offer me. A split for the clinic and ducted for the house. We kept coming back to Actron Esp+ as it could do everything we wanted. The final bit of our Actron install happened last week and I'm very impressed. Silent inside, could't hear it running at all and the outdoor unit was very quiet as well. Plus the outdoor unit is very compact, especially in comparison to other brands we looked at. Other bonus (didn't check this on other brands so can't compare) but no froggies/gecko's/mice can move into the motor compartment of the outdoor unit, fully sealed. Bonus up here as the frogs seem to move in everywhere and everytime the cane was cut we seemed to get mice visitors at our last place ... anything to discourage them damaging the system. ------------ Sent from my mobile device ... please excuse the typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Price of Actron vs Daikin A/C option 14Nov 06, 2011 10:08 pm Sorry this is off topic. Re: Price of Actron vs Daikin A/C option 17Nov 15, 2011 9:31 pm I chose Actron because of the variable speed fan core. But, after doing so was given another good reason for going with Actron. My installer does both Daikin and Actron and told me after the Japan earthquake he had a lot of trouble getting parts. But Actron manufacture in Sydney, so even though their compressors are from USA and some parts from elsewhere, they seem to carry a good inventory of parts. Re: Price of Actron vs Daikin A/C option 18Nov 15, 2011 10:09 pm Hi Waratah, That's a shame for the Japanese stuff, but you're right. It's one of those extra benefits of buying (mostly) Aussie made.
