We are currently renovating our home with the major renovation being the kitchen. We chose maple cabinets with a coffee glaze and would like wood floors. I have not picked out countertops, I am very confused. Is there any rule as to what color counter tops and floors should be? Should I go light on the floors and counters, a dark color, a mixture? Any input will appreciate. Tiffany, You might like to put this question in the kitchen forum….I tried to move it for you, but I can’t do it. Just copy and past it in a new post in the kitchen forum. You might get looked at better there! Another thing we are doing to match this is push all the windows up off the floor to match the height as well. Our builder suggested that this would add to the spacious feel of the ceiling height, and it doesn't cost anymore. One thing we didn't realise with the raise in door height was that now we have to make our 6 stacker door and sliding door higher as well so that is a few extra $$$ Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 17Mar 26, 2009 9:34 pm oh great, an Irish cottage to get away for mini breaks from the hustle and bustle of London city life is just what Jo needs. sorry I can't stop with these property spam jokes jo. Re: 18Mar 27, 2009 7:09 am Raz I was debating whether i should take them out but I think $4500 ( thats what my builder is charging) is well spent. $4500... I'd certainly question that cost... A standard 2040 door will be costing the builder about $27... While a 2340 door is around $58.... So being that its a $30 difference... How many doors do you have in your house??? The average house will have no more than 20 internals.... So $600... Even adding a little more for additional jambing and architraves, it still doesn't take it to anywhere near $4500... Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 19Mar 27, 2009 7:33 am I think the $4500 was the price for the actual raised ceiling rather than the doors? Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 20Mar 27, 2009 9:19 am We are having 2700m ceilings and 2340 doors everywhere including the wardrobes. We have raised the shelf and rail in the wardrobes so that we can easily add another rail lower. The higher doors to the wardrobes gives us easy access to all that lovely high storage space.
