Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 08, 2011 7:19 am Hi my name is Odie and hubby is Andy:) Well.. I guess it's better late than never. i've already posted up here before:) I'm building first home with Henley and well wish that we had started writing in this thread much more earlier. I've been documenting my building with a little flip camera. ( not very good with making home movies though) so here our story condensed in six minutes from slab to where we are right now. Here is the link: copy and paste into your browser:) Hopefully it works:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBeGM3y-3DQ Just wanted to start a thread here... even though we're near the end! I've been reading some of the threads here with people building their homes and I must say, you all have beautiful homes. Sometimes the more I read with the threads here , very inspired and at awe. I must say .. I love the photos! So far everything is in place now. The painters have come and gone, our kitchen is complete, The portaloo has come and gone, our sinks, taps are installed, the tubs are in, the tiles are nearly finished and the lighting is also up. The fencing on the side and back is up, Our fireplace was installed last Tuesday and apparently they had Cleaners come in today. What we have to worry about is finding someone to do the driveway and at an affordable price and paying off our furniture.. also finding a fridge and washing machine! Our journey has been somewhat like a roller coaster up and down however wouldn't change a thing! Well Hubby and I are going to go have a look tomorrow at the house and walk the dogs. Have been reading up on how to move your pets and it's been said to lessen the stress of a new environment we should walk the dogs there so that they have less stress settling in especially with the move. Has anyone had any trouble settling their pets in their new home? Well besides that, that's we're at.. that's us at the moment, once the keys are handed over we plan to paint some feature walls around in the house before getting the flooring in , move in and have the appliances installed! Fingers crossed by the end of this month as we have relatives coming from America to attend my sisters wedding and it would be nice to have it all done so we can help the family house our relatives, otherwise it's going to be very cramped at my parents house! (all thirteen of them!) I cannot wait to move into my new home.. they say that Patience is a Virtue! http://heartmyhome.blogspot.com Re: Better Late than never: Henley Monterey Q1 2Oct 10, 2011 7:04 pm Well just a lil update.. went for a walk with my dogs on the weekend and hubby around the area. They cleaned up their mess so all the rubbish is gone, the metal fences are down and from what I can see they have installed all the handles on the closets and cupboards and pantry!! Isn't it funny that a door knob or a handle, or even a tile can seriously make you so excited?! I also found stickers on the walls with numbers? ( I was peeking through the windows again!) So I called the administrator today as I haven't received any updates and find that unusual... got an email back saying that she would contact the builder to talk to him to find out what the news is with the house.. Wonder what's going to happen next?! Hope everyone had a good weekend! Thursday rocked up and this is what my administrator had to say in an email: Hi Odette, SS has advised the tick sheet inspection was completed on the 06/10, items raised from this inspection are currently being worked through, QA 4 inspection to be booked.\ To which I asked : because i'm clueless on these things: Hi (insert Administrators name here) QA 4 inspection to be booked. What does this mean? Thanks Odette To which she replied: It’s an internal inspection carried out by Henley, once completed then any items raised at this inspection are then rectified. Then the home will progress to the New Home Presentation Department for their inspection then when ready someone from this department will call you to arrange your inspection. So Thursday was definitely Thursdayriffic!! And then todaaaaayyyy I got a call from my SS and he said "Well Odette, just wanted to speed the process up for you, was wondering when you and Andy are available to have a quick inspection on the house with me because it's very close time that you're going to have the final presentation of the house and anything you pick up we'll be able to fix up before then" To which I asked can I have a building inspector to accompany me and Andy to look at the house to which he said " yes" so I asked when Handover might be and he said.. In a couple of weeks!! I seriously had to stop myself from jumping up and down in excitement because i'm really exciteted!!! and also i'm at work... I cannot believe that I might have the keys soon and to see the house!! All i can think of right now ( as well which is silly) is that.. I need a fridge!! ahhh.. money... okay back to work!!! just thought i'd share my excitement! I cannot wait to move into my new home.. they say that Patience is a Virtue! http://heartmyhome.blogspot.com Re: Better Late than never: Henley Monterey Q1 12Oct 14, 2011 6:49 pm INSPECTIONS ON THURSDAY:) 13Oct 17, 2011 5:07 pm Thankyou so much for the fridge Kiwi:) Made me chuckle some!! Especially for the tempting recipes:) hahah! So we've organised New Home Inspections to come out and have a look at our house with us on Thursday and at the same time carpet call are going to do measurements on the house. I don't know when we get the keys but we slotted in a time ( on the 7th Nov) to put in our floors!! Very excited:) When Thursday goes i'll put some pictures up of the rooms and house so far I must admit it's all coming along very quickly. I hope the presentation of the new homes isn't too far I cannot wait to move into my new home.. they say that Patience is a Virtue! http://heartmyhome.blogspot.com Re: Better Late than never: Henley Monterey Q1 14Oct 20, 2011 7:00 pm Thursday today:) So off we headed off to our house. Our SS was there to greet us as well as our inspector and we combed through our house to find any issues that needed to be rectified. Some of the issues from our Building inspector were things such as scratches in the bath tub and one window, uneven gaps around the doors but all in all little issues. We get the report tomorrow. Asked our SS when he'd think that handover would be.. and he said in two weeks:) So we'll see!! Was so tempted just to stay and get cracking moving in:) I really do love our home.. Carpet call came to measure the house for the flooring and apparently it will take a week to install! So on the 7th of November the flooring will start! I'm kinda wondering if we should now paint.. the way that it is.. is really nice at the moment. Was considering feature walls. So here are some pics:) We'll start at the start.. Re: Better Late than never: Henley Monterey Q1 17Nov 09, 2011 7:05 am It's been a while since i've been here! Hope whoever is reading this is doing well. Got the results from the building inspections and found that there were 21 faults between the building inspector who came and the building site manager aswell as us.. that they are working on to getting fixed at the present moment. So we're patiently waiting until we get a call for inspection. Also in regards to changing administrators so late in the process... is it normal for builders to switch administrators so late in the game. Just saying the one that we've had has done a really good job so far! Hopefully we'll be in soon! It feels like it's we're so close but so far away at the moment! Oh.. and carpetcall did a miscalculation on the measurements so if they didn't catch thier mistake we would've been short on the flooring... additional $$$ gone! (sighs) ce la vie! I cannot wait to move into my new home.. they say that Patience is a Virtue! http://heartmyhome.blogspot.com That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 18006 Like I said the Occupancy Certificate is not the tollgate that marks the completion of the house.
