Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Kichen Layout....Thoughts Updated For changes 21Oct 06, 2011 12:42 am Planfan and Rizzo, thanks for the comments. I have informed the builder that we would be going with the galley style kitchen. I have also asked that the sink be moved in to provide some bench space rather than in the corner. It will probably only be 200mm but should optically be better, I will just make the drawers slightly narrower. The reasoning for positioning the sink where it is, is so that it is close to the cooktop, and refrigerator. At the far end of the wall side bench I will more than likely (subject to wife approval) have a semi commercial coffee machine. I originally liked the first layout for the separation it gave but the more I thought about it I think that facing the windows will be nicer. I think the idea of being able to face the windows is appealing. Rizzo was wondering what is on the other side of the Island, its actually a living room that is 4.2M long by 5M wide that will have the tv etc, and opposite the dining area is actually a Home Theater that should be around 6M x 5.5M. Regarding the dishwasher being noisy I can only think that this would be transference, it will be sitting on concrete though. I guess sound sort of sound isolation can be used ( I will look into that). Regarding the refrigerator, i think this bit is cool. Behind the fridge will be a door frame ( or what ever you call it) which will allow the fridge to be backed into it so that you only have clearance for the door to be fully opened. This will actually facilitate cleaning and provide easy access for water and elect connection. I am using the entire stairwell as a walk in pantry. The funny thing is that the kitchen will not get used that much as my wife is Asian and likes to cook outside. If no pool then I will get a 6 burner Goldstein like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I will have the fridge under-bench but will not be going for the glass doors as I am sure the wife will want things other than drinks in it. Thanks for the help and feedback, I really find this site addictive and supportive. I am in Singapore so if anyone wants things hunted down hear you can PM me. Ciao Mark Re: Kichen Layout....Thoughts Updated For changes 22Oct 06, 2011 10:42 am Well knowing that it is a lounge on the other side, I now prefer the galley style too Means you can be more involved both ways and the kitchen isn't so open to the living area. Well done Re: Kichen Layout....Thoughts Updated Again (last time) 23Oct 07, 2011 12:49 am Hi All, The Builder came back and suggested making the windows smaller and then running cupboards across the top. This would also allow a concealed rangehood, probably going a Quasiar. Speaking to a couple of friends they also suggested shifting the sink over one slot so the dishwasher would be first then sink then draws. Getting there..... I personally think it is a better laid out house but then I would wouldn't eye,.....hehe. As usual thanks for your comments in advance. Cheers Mark Re: Kichen Layout....Thoughts Updated For changes 24Oct 07, 2011 10:44 am Looks great. I think the cupboards across the top finish it off nicely and a lot more cupboard space. In regards to the sink, we have ours right over to the side and I love it there. Most dishes go straight in the dishwasher, so there is not much that gets done by hand, so it's location wasn't a big deal. i have the bin cupboard under the sink then the dishwasher next to it. I love all the extra bench space we have in one strip and visitors don't have to sit in front of the sink when at the kitchen If you are going the 1200 depth bench, then it's not that big a deal, but with ours it's perfect.
