I know the true answer is that to be sure if something has asbestos, the only way to tell for sure is to have it tested.
That being said, if your adult kid was going to be putting in R49 blown in cellulose into their attic, and these pictures were in their attic, would you have it tested or say go for it?
I don't have much DIY home expertise at all. But, I think I'm looking at a bit of fiberglass batts with a small amount of cellulose blown in insulation on top of it. The only thing that concerns me is the appearance of a bit of gravel'ish substance on top. I know vermiculite often contains asbestos. But, it makes more sense to me that these bits are from shingles, because for some reason there's shingles up there too. I'm assuming the roof's wood may have been replaced along with shingles, and perhaps that got bits of shingle all over the place?
