Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Oct 04, 2011 4:43 pm Hi, I am about to start building but was thinking that some time down the road I may like to put in a security system. Is there anything I can do now to reduce my pain down the track? For example, should I put in a piece of conduit in the wall to where a future keypad might go? Anything else? The most common additions are a conduit and wall box in the location that you will want the keypad later, as well as a phone point and powerpoint somewhere, usually in the top of the Bed 1 robe. Re: Provision for future security system? 3Oct 09, 2011 10:15 am While your at frame stage for the small cost of the cable it would pay to pre-wire your house for an alarm, it will make it alot easier and cheaper if you decide to install an alarm later down the track. If you have some house plans that you can email me I would be happy to have a look and give you some ideas on how many detectors you might need, placements for PIR's keypads etc, so you know where to run your cables. PM me if you are interested. Thanks The answer is yes, any walls that are single leaf that you may require a keypad / light switch / aircon controller will require a conduit or you will need to chase it later, suggest if you don't want it straight away then chase it in and take a photo of the conduit before it has mud on it (for reference) then simply mud over it and plaster paint as usual.
