Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 30, 2011 1:13 am Hi folks, looking for some info from someone in the know. Looking a putting down a floating strand-woven bamboo floor in our new house. While the underlay does act as a moisture barrier, is it necessary to seal the slab with epoxy or something as well? I have't heard conflicting opinions on this. Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 2Sep 30, 2011 8:32 am I didn't bother going to the expense of sealing my concrete, only the underlay. It is been over 2 years now and no problems. However, if you did want to seal it, I don't see how it will hurt (other than your wallet, that is ) Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 3Sep 30, 2011 10:01 pm Hi Spud, There should be no need for sealing your concerete if your underlay is waterproof. Most underlays are waterproof, however its best to get this double checked. Good luck! Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 4Oct 01, 2011 8:24 pm Copmpany I've been talking to says they use underlay with double-sided waterproof membrane, so no need for sealing then? Any issues with the joins between strips of underlay, or do they usually get sealed? Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 5Oct 01, 2011 8:49 pm Why strand woven bamboo over compressed? I like the bamboo but he seems to have astigmatism around it. Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 6Oct 01, 2011 8:50 pm Dam auto correct, make that a stigma. Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 7Oct 02, 2011 8:36 pm bradster181 - Strand woven bamboo and compressed are the same Just different names. Spud - If its waterproof it should be no problem. Generally, with underlay the installers should overlap the join between the sheets/strips so there's no issue with moisture. Re: Bamboo on new slab - need to seal the concrete? 9Oct 16, 2011 12:30 am You have hot & cold pressed or compressed Bamboo as well as Strand Woven or the Butcher Block looking bamboo. Hot & Cold both have advantages & Disadvatages. Arc Bamboo from Premium Flooring is Cold Pressed from Memory, but I could be wrong & If they are confident in that manufacturing process then I would be. As for the moisture Barrier, as most have said the U'lay should have a 200um thickness plastic sheeting incorporated with it or you can put down you own plastic sheeting. If you wanted to get excited you could use Ardex WPM300 epoxy or an easier way would be Protect crete Moisture Fix 1 or Moisture Fix 2, Ardex also have the S4 which is a similar product. We pulled up the timber- underlay and membrane plastic- dried everything out then relay it... was fine after the event. Addicted to home design and new colour trends. So many good options- but so few rooms! I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5175 4 14255 yep, clearly mark where the infloor heating pipes are before drilling or nailing 1 6044 |
