I would expect the soil level to finish at the top of the concrete slab or just above. So, if you can picture that....I think it will be fine. Re: Downpipes and the final finish ... 4Sep 18, 2011 7:31 am I don't think I'd be worried about the looks of this, but I'm not sure why is the DP in the second pic inserted into the ground pipe, and not nicely joined like the first one (wouldn't water get into the join)? I mean, it looks unfinished. I would expect that join to at least be sealed. In regards to straight DPs, I think one of ours is very, very slightly off-centre, can't remember. Unless it's really visible all the time, it wouldn't worry me too much, but it depends on how bad it is . Sorry, not much help! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Downpipes and the final finish ... 5Sep 18, 2011 10:04 am I assuming the final connection 90mm to 100mm has not been finished. The pipe connections may not be glued so you could remove the 45d angle place a joiner extend the pipe down, assuming you have 150mm of 90mm pipe. You could just buy some 90mm pipe 6m $17 and replace the whole length. However wait a month and see if its worthwhile you just might not notice it after a while. Almost certain it would pass an inspection and the standards set. Good Luck Re: Downpipes and the final finish ... 7Sep 20, 2011 3:55 pm An update incase someone else has the same 'issue' We have really crappy soil, so all our pipes need to expansion thingies (that is the very technical term created by me ) that all allow for the house movement. All the pipes are finished like those in the second picture, but it seems the plumber has just left the ones down that side of the house up too high - the ones on the other side of the house are all below ground. The SS is going to arrange for them all to be lowered so they will be under the slab line and therefore hidden when we run a path down that side of the house. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Downpipes and the final finish ... 8Sep 20, 2011 4:02 pm ESB An update incase someone else has the same 'issue' We have really crappy soil, so all our pipes need to expansion thingies (that is the very technical term created by me ) that all allow for the house movement. I mean how long can it be without fixing it to the wall. My builder did not fix the 1st floor downpipes. They are 2.7m long. Either forgot or could not be bothered climbing the tall ladder. He is not coming back to fix it, things went sour over final completion so I need to compile defects and non standards. Re: Downpipes and the final finish ... 10Mar 23, 2012 3:08 pm I've seen a lot worse, but it does look sloppy. The fact that it isn't sealed is neither here nor there as it's for storm water and not sewerage. You can buy in-line unions if you're still unhappy. Plumbers are notorious for doing the bare minimum. I'm assuming you're going to paint the DP's so it'll notice even less. Re: Downpipes and the final finish ... 11Mar 24, 2012 4:50 am Hi ESB Quality is about standard and consistency(uniformity of appearance). There is no reason why all the downpipes around your home should not look the same. Its about skill and care. Ask yourself "would the builder have this on his own home?" If the answer is "NO" you have the answer. In Victoria we have Domestic Contracts Building Act 1995 section 6 which basically tells you you have the right to expect the standard not less than the builder's display home. Check out the display home stand up for your rights and you will get more respect. The bigger pipes were dropped below ground level like the rest of the house. There is a rubber ring/seal around the downpipe where it goes into the bigger pipe to seal it. We are on very crappy soil and I was advised the downpipes are completed like this to allow for movement of the house (floating slab). ------------ Sent from my mobile device ... please excuse the typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Devkop The good news it is super easy to fix.
