Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jan 04, 2005 10:46 am Greetings All,
I am planning on taking out a fairly large in-ground pool, and building a garage in its place, and possibly part of it will have a new house built on it as well - the plans are not finalised.. The pool dates back to the late 60's early 70's and is all concrete. Because I am planning to build on it, does it need to be removed in any particular way - ie Completely??? Or can it be filled in and relevant areas for footings be dug out properly? Is getting permits for buildings to be built over an old pool made more complex in areas were pools once were? Is a permit required for pool removal or just notification to the council? I am in Melbourne - Whitehorse CC. Thanks! Aaron Re: Pool Removal! 2Jan 19, 2005 8:45 am Hi Aaron,
I’m afraid I can’t answer most of your questions regarding permits, etc. however you, and other readers, may be interested in the web page I constructed which documents with pictures the removal of our old (1967) concrete, inground swimming pool last spring. The contractor that did the work did mention that the broken up concrete from the pool would experience less settling than you would get with regular fill. It has been a half a year since the job was completed, and there is no noticeable settling yet. Here is the address to the page I mentioned: http://home.comcast.net/~phil.detweiler ... ition.html I hope there is some helpful information there for you.
