Plus $50 per metre fabric for average quality Add labour cost to that - sorry, don't know how much. Maybe someone can make a suggestion here............................... $2,200 is over the top IMHO You could buy a new one for that price & top of the range, for that matter Get some more quotes Alternatively, some upholsterers will make you a slip cover to fit your sofa. That's got to be a cheaper option. You could possibly save a few dollars with a cheaper fabric but it's really false economy long term and the labour content won't be any different. It's not just a case of replacing the fabric...often foam cushions need to be replaced, arms need to have new foam/wadding etc and depending on construction, springs might need replacing/repairing, then of course there is time involved in removing the current coverings. Have you thought about doing it yourself? It will be time consuming but you will save on labour costs. Re: A company for Replacing the fabric on Sofas 4Aug 12, 2011 5:07 pm HappyCamper_au so imho the quote is on par. sorry Romani..........I thought you were quoted on 1 sofa I agree with HC...........$2,200 for 2 sofas is probably about right. I would still get further quotes.......you might get it down a bit more but it wouldn't be that significant. We used inform upholstery and design Ph: Derek Martin 03 9974 3777 - he comes and picks the item up and returns it when it's done. In relation to the cost - for my chaise couch for the family room it was $1650.00 - he didn't need to replace any of the foam as it was all practically brand new - the material that we chose was a commercial grade fabric as it's in a high traffic area. The Chesterfield cost me $2k but all of the chair pads were replaced and it was a very expensive velvet - so it was restoration and re-upholster. I highly recommend them - they are very professional and they have thousands of different material to choose from - great guys Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: A company for Replacing the fabric on Sofas 6Aug 14, 2011 10:18 am Thanks Southies, Happy Camper and Sleven! Looks like it is not worth to spend that much in repairing that given that I can buy a same type of new sofa for that much money..! So I have decided not to take it.. HappyCamper, If I do it myself, I can do the cusions but I am wondering how I could finish the base as the fabric is attached to the wood or base... Thanks again girls..!! Re: A company for Replacing the fabric on Sofas 7Aug 14, 2011 10:38 am Romani use a staple gun....if you don't have one they aren't expensive and readily available from Bunnings and similar. You'll use it for lots of things once you have one! Spotlight also has the black vilene-type fabric (can't think of the name atm) to finish the bottom of the lounges just like the pros use, it's really cheap and gives a professional finish, or you could use calico. Spotlight also has zipper-by-the-metre for large cushions etc and they might still have some of the upholstery fabrics from their recent 'from $8 per metre' sale...I made a heap of placemats yesterday from good quality upholstery fabric and have some cushions cut ready to be sewn. Hope this helps? Re: A company for Replacing the fabric on Sofas 9Aug 16, 2011 9:38 pm Lex if you tip the lounge or chairs over you will see the bottom has been neatened with a black vilene-type fabric...or if your lounge is older (as in antique) then it's probably calico. The vilene-type fabric is only a couple of $'s per metre and being a non-woven fabric doesn't fray like calico and therefore saves time for the upholsterer. Re: A company for Replacing the fabric on Sofas 10Aug 17, 2011 7:20 am Do you mean the fabric that is stretched over the whole seating area of the sofa, ie. the area directly under the seating cushions?? Or do you mean the actual bottom of the sofa, ie. the area that's only a few centimeters off the floor and is visible only if you turn the sofa to the side (or upside-down ) ?? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: A company for Replacing the fabric on Sofas 14Aug 17, 2011 9:20 am Oh, OK. Although, I wouldn't be too bothered about these bottoms unless they don't smell nice any more. BTW, I would have thought that reupholstering just by using a staple gun would not be hard at all?? There would still be bits that need to be sewn together (cushions excluded because obviously they will have to be sewn anyway), or at least tucked in really well ... The challenge would be if you wanted exact-fit removable slip covers which IMO are by far the best as you can wash them whenever you want to. In fact, they should be more expensive to make, if you want a nice proper snug fit. I made one once and it was an exact fit, but I didn't make all that nice piping around the arms, so it wasn't as shmick as it could have been.
