Hi all,
We're about to do a knockdown rebuild in sydney and have nearly finished demolition. Just after everyone's opinions on whether what we've been told is reasonable. The demolishers have found some asbestos surrounding the slab of the old house and are asking for nearly $10k to have it removed. Naturally, this seems pretty steep to us, considering the whole quote for demolition was around $15k. Does it really cost that much to get rid of asbestos? It appears the asbestos was used by the old owners as formwork for the slab in their extensions, and didn't take it out. The house is about 60-70 years old and the area of the slab in question is approximately 9m x 9m. Is it $10k because that's really how much it costs to get rid of the stuff or is it $10k because the demolition company have us by the short and curlies, seeing as they're half way through the job?
Any help appreciated.
