Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Aug 09, 2011 4:18 pm We have a retaining wall across the back of our block. It was there when we bought the block, and the whole street is the same. None of us have access steps to the raised area. We'll eventually get either limestone block steps or maybe even timber steps.. not sure yet. I want to start planting up there and put a good layer of mulch in. The area is approximately 65 sqm, so a lot of mulch. Problem is, the wall is approximately 1.5m above natural ground level (house level) and has no access. We're pretty much resigned to the fact that we're going to have to haul bucket loads of mulch by hand. I'm pretty sure it's going to take me a good 6 months to do it, and probably several broken buckets! I imagine a temporary ramp would be too steep (and we're not even sure what we could use as a ramp?!). If that were your wall, how would you do it?? Any and all ideas are most welcome!! The only thing you need to be is make sure you get the mulch as close to the wall as possible to start with. If it were me, I'd remove those fence panels and have them drop it under that alfresco area. A little hard work won't hurt and you'll appreciate the finished result more IMO. Re: 1.5m retaining wall with NO steps! 4Aug 14, 2011 2:17 pm To save some time, instead of using buckets you could use one of those smaller square blue tarps with the eyelets and some rope. Load your mulch onto the tarp. Pull up each corner and thread the rope through and tie it off then drag it up on top of the wall. This would be faster and easier than trying to load buckets with mulch. Re: 1.5m retaining wall with NO steps! 5Aug 14, 2011 3:09 pm Thanks for the suggestions KID, I suggested the same thing to DP the other night.. he looked at me silly Chrisandkate, we're certainly not afraid of hard work and getting our hands dirty. Just wanted to put the question out there in case someone had an idea that we hadn't though of yet. It's too easy to analyse something so much, you end up making it more complicated than it should be Thanks Oceanic with Nautilus upgrades. Handover 8 September 2010 Thank you again Simeon..
