I have no qualms having a different bench to what's inside as it just makes it all more interesting I think. Re: What to use for servery bench under bi-fold kitchen wind 5Jul 27, 2011 5:37 pm Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm probably going to go with some kind of stone or marble bench - the essa stone looks interesting, I'll definitely look into that. The merbau idea sounds interesting also - would that come as a single piece of timber, or would it be joined? I'm actually having stainless steel benches in the kitchen for their practical qualities, however I don't think I'd use that for the servery bench as my kitchen is galley style, tucked away from the eyes of my guests mainly. However the servery bench will be out in plain sight, so I wanted something that looks a little nicer than stainless steel. Re: What to use for servery bench under bi-fold kitchen wind 6Jul 27, 2011 6:39 pm yep one piece. I like the idea of the stainless steel servery bench actually!! Have your tried google images or flickr? You might find some inspiration pics there. Re: What to use for servery bench under bi-fold kitchen wind 8Aug 05, 2011 4:44 pm I'm using hardwood. Something like a 50x2500x240mm joined piece of mahogany. It will compliment the indoor flooring and won't cost as much as extending my bench top that won't be installed until the end of the renno. Will your ledge be in full direct sunlight, or will it be under an alfresco? Composite stones like essa can apparently fade if they are in direct sunlight. From the essa stone website: "Exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods can cause colour fading. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in exterior applications where it is exposed to direct sunlight." Just something to keep in mind.
