Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 22, 2008 11:46 pm Hi everyone,
Was just wondering if anyone has had issues with their framing. We (my partner and i) are building a 25square single storey and construction finally started 2 weeks go after 1 year of waiting for our land to be released. Things have been going very quick and we just saw that framing had been done. However, we've visited our place and took pictures of a few things we noticed. Does anyone has had similar problems with the framing? basically we've noticed that there is a gap between the base frame and the slab. is that normal? Michael Re: Frames Issues 2Jun 23, 2008 11:26 am not an expert....but I think the last pic looks ok, the first ones look pretty bad - I would hope they have just put those packers in as a temporary thing and are going to do something to properly support the frame!! I will definitely get in touch with our site supervisor. We are yet to meet him, but it is about time we do to talk about our 1st issue with our construction. Re: Frames Issues 5Jun 23, 2008 6:09 pm Are you considering getting an independant inspection, say pre-plaster? The crack in the timber is no issue, but the packing and strapping doesn't look that good.
Let us know how it goes with your site supervisor? Re: Frames Issues 6Jun 23, 2008 7:45 pm The slab is badly out of level - I would ask for it to be fixed Re: Frames Issues 7Jun 24, 2008 10:56 pm I've talked to our site supervisor and he told us it has been fixed now.
We've got our 1st site meeting this saturday. He has been very helpful and we'll go through any other issue. However he did that that the building surveyor did not think of the frame to be a problem. oh well, i'm happy our ss has listened to us. thanks guys Re: Frames Issues 8Jun 25, 2008 7:17 pm Buy yourself a good quality spirit level ( no less than 1200mm) and take it to the inspection. Put it down near where the frame was propped up. If the slab is way out of level ask why. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 18244 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8468 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you doing this with a building permit?
