Ive been told that mitred joins should be avoided as they weaken the tiles and over time might cause big problem. :s Also ive been told to stay away from metal strips as they scratch easily and end up looking thrashed out :s What are your thoughts? At this stage I am leaning towards butt joins but the porcelain, fully vitrified tiles I've selected have a different colour in the last few mm of the tile thickness Tiling in/around shower niches 2Jun 19, 2011 9:28 pm [quote="blueblueblue"]How are the joins around your niches done? At first I was disappointed, but he explained that the metal look ones scratch and look ******* very quickly. He picked a colour that matches the tiling. Didn't realise they came in Plastic as well. Tiling in/around shower niches 4Jun 19, 2011 10:39 pm I have metal strips and don't have a scratch on them and it's been 2 years since we moved in. I don't usually have anything in the shower with me that would cause scratching :p I also have metal strips between each row of tiles in the shower - no scratches on those either. Re: Tiling in/around shower niches 5Jun 19, 2011 10:46 pm same as suh here - have the metal strips and have been in 2.5 years and no scratches. I think you'd have to be pretty rough with something pretty solid in the shower to cause scratches to them!? perhaps if you scrubbed at them with an abrasive cleaner? in any case ours are still fine, I just wipe over them with an enjo cloth every now and again.
