We checked the fence thing out thoroughly before putting it up. We are in a semi-established street in an established area (ie, not in a development estate, as such. Private onsell rather than through developers 'package'). North neighbour hasn't touched his land yet, nor has anything been submitted to council, so we can't ask him for money for our shared fence yet. South neighbour was about 6 weeks behind us, so we shared the cost and that one is all good. We do suspect that north neighbour may sell his block rather than build, but being in real estate, we will be keeping an eye out and approaching the agent who lists it to alert them to the fact that we are owed money for the fence. If the seller isn't prepared to add that as a condition of the sale, then we'll look into putting a caveat on the property so that someone has to pay us. If your land developers included the neighbourhood fences in their package, then your neighbour has no right whatsoever to claim anything from you!
