Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 3May 22, 2011 2:39 pm We are going through an insurance reno of a bathroom with almost exactly the same dimensions and layout. The old bathroom had a bath that was sigificantly lower maybe 400mm tops. It was set back into the wall by about 20 - 25mm and on the outer edge had a ledger that was about 200mm high and 200mm deep. I was like a step. That had a couple of advantages -it made it much easier to bath children (it seemed that you were higher than and closer to the splashing) and it opened the room up because the bath was so 'low' and set back. The new bath is a 1700mm x 800mm and including the surrounds now sits 940mm away from the wall. I think it is going to be too imposing but SWMBO wants it that way. I am not so sure and I suspect that we will come to regret it. The disadvantage of this setup, is that reaching over to the taps is pretty difficult so we have the tap/mixer placed on the wall at the end of the bath. The vanity unit will take the opposite wall from the door. It will be a double unit because with our tribe getting ready for school, work and going to bed is akin to feeding time at the zoo. The gap between the vanity and the bath will be 750mm max I think so it will look like like a gorge. The shower will be hobless and will have a swinging door with the tap/mixer placed alongside the screen rather that below the shower rose. My wife wants a clear screen but everyone I speak to says not to because they are a bugger to keep looking clean. I have question of others though regarding tiling. Do the floor tiles surround the bath ie up the sides and around the top or do people use the wall tiles? Cheers Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 5May 23, 2011 3:52 pm I tend to agree that the hob around the bath looks best with floor tiles, though it might depend on your colour scheme. If you're going darker floors and lighter walls, i think this would be most effective. Suh, the shower screen door IS opening up on the towel rail. Hubby is adamant that this will be OK if the rail sits slightly off centre. I don't think we'll have too much choice as we'll probably centre the floating vanity, so it wouldn't fit on that wall any way. kymg, good point about reaching over the 940mm bath to reach the mixer and tap - hadn't though of that, and too late now! Hope it won't become the bane of our lives! We've already moved the shower mixers once so that they and the rail shower aren't opposite the screen door, so we don't get sprayed everytime we turn it on or attempt to wash the kids' hair. We're going with frameless clear shower screens - to keep the space as open as possible. Will post pics of the Giant Bath when done! Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 7May 23, 2011 4:51 pm Yes, it does. The main door sits bottom right in diagram. Hubby says he will put in some kind of door stop to stop it bashing against the towel rail... Its probably not TOO late to shift it to the left of vanity, if we put the vanity in the corner instead of centering it. Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 8May 23, 2011 5:02 pm A few houses ago we had to have ours situated like that and it annoyed me no end. I could never see my pretty towels unless the door was closed I know, not important Would you like me to take some photos of my corner vanities? Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 9May 23, 2011 5:04 pm Go clear glass. Its not that hard to keep clean. I find a bit of spray'n'wipe and then a quick clean with metho always keeps our screens immaculate. Our bath sounds very similar its the same dimensions and does not look too big. If you are worried floor space will be an issue go for a wall hung vanity with semi recessed basins. You can get them in the square basin as well and they do give a sense of space. Will make the room feel bigger too. As the vanity unit is narrower it frees up some space. The bath will look great! In our old place we got 2 short towel rails and hung one above the other. They did not bash on the door as they sat centred in where the opened bathroom door sat. If you get what I mean. Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 10May 23, 2011 5:25 pm Suh, I'd forgotten about displaying towels. Its going to be my girls bathroom, so was going to offset the bright green bath with perhaps some bright pink towels to make it a bit feminine. another reason to review placement! Luke, yes we are going floating vanity, most likely with semi-recessed basins, though at 480mm I think we still have room for benchtop basins - will need to think about that one. Suh, are your corner vanities wall hung? Re: Attack of the killer bath ?! 11May 23, 2011 5:40 pm shakyreno I tend to agree that the hob around the bath looks best with floor tiles, though it might depend on your colour scheme. we are going with wall tiles around the bath because the bath is against the one wall which is being done in a different colour... that wall is being done in a white-ish 'fabric/linear' (like this http://www.everyfloor.com/images/PO/Dal ... brique.jpg) tile with the other walls being matt white... keeping a light white look but with a bit of a change on the one wall to break it up.... thought it would look best with the one wall all the same colour, rather than the floor tile being brought up the side of the bath... That just protects from further rust, l want first to apply a rust converter or rust killer to kill the rust thats there, whats the best one for galvanized steel 2 14066 2 9083 You need to reference the manufactures installation guide, your supplier may have strengthened the base where it is not required to sit on a bed. 1 5639 |
