We need to start building passive solar homes that don't rely on air-conditioning. We really can't afford it any more. Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 6Apr 11, 2007 8:05 pm I will add these greenhouse gasses with the ones that come out of my wifes toorak tractor and my "Petrol Drinking V8"
I don't apologise for my choices. My kids can apologise for me if they feel the need in 50 years time. Until then ...... Matt Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 8Apr 11, 2007 9:00 pm Oh YSSIM,
Pokin' the bear is fun!! However i digress. The heating unit is the Brivis ME35i and the cooling unit is CDU18a-9. I have no idea about the efficiency of these units. I needed to have these units to meet the dimensions of the house for cooling and heating. Matt Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 10Apr 11, 2007 9:35 pm We are also zoning.
I am putting in the network controller downstairs and the slave unit upstairs. Zone 1 is downstairs and obviously Zone 2 will be upstairs. Based on the design of the house I figure most of the time I will heat the bottom of the house and let it rise and cool the top of the house and let it fall. I have the zoning as a backup for the really hot days and really cold days. Matt Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 11Apr 11, 2007 10:10 pm An aircon installer/repairer I asked was very definite in his opinion when I asked about brands: Mitsubishi Skip the aircon 12Apr 11, 2007 10:14 pm At a time when we all need to be cutting back on our energy use, it's very easy to build your house so that you don't need air conditioning! How? Check out http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/yourhome/t ... /index.htm for heaps of information on passive design (ways of cooling your house that don't need engines). You'll also save a packet in the long run. Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 13Apr 12, 2007 6:19 am Ah yeah, nice ideas there but even they're not suggesting that in very hot or cold climates you don't need any mechanical assiatnce. My guess is that you live in a very temperate zone, not far north Queensland, NT or Tasmania Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 14Apr 12, 2007 8:31 am Quote: But I don't think it's something we should discuss here. Why not? Oh - hang on. I'm starting to see why we're in this mess. You quickly dismiss suggestions like Elizabeth's. Call it 'pokin' the bear'. Make it entertainment. Perhaps it's denial? We live in interesting times. Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 16Apr 12, 2007 9:00 am I see the good professor was talking to the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. I just watched a DVD called 'Thank you for smoking'. In the movie the tobacco industry had a scientist that could prove anything. It was a good satire on lobbying and how a few will try to hang on to their fortunes and power, no matter what damage they do.
I also notice that the professor Quote: conceded the politics of greenhouse gas emissions meant that attention was being given to energy efficiency, which he supported. And that link to enery efficient home design - it covers all Australia - here's remote Queensland. http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/yourhome/t ... /fs74a.htm Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 17Apr 12, 2007 9:10 am Oops.
Wasn't pokin' the bear at all. It was a beehive Matt Re: Choosing the right air conditioning 19Apr 12, 2007 1:16 pm So how about the interjectors pack up and leave the building so we can focus on the original members question being
